Ok guys (assuming that's the prevalent bunch here)

Assuming you could get any mix of TV and on-demand services to your TV set (not your computer) what would this be, ideally?

- iPlayer? / 4oD / ITV Player?
- Something which brought all catch up TV and archive together in one place?
- Hulu (we've read much about it, yet nobody in the U.K. can legitimately access it)?

Looks like Hulu has decided to delay any launch in the UK leaving Canvas and See Saw having an advantage when it launches for BBC, ITV, ch4, ch5 and Lovefilms (Amazon) IPTV progammes and Films to play on TVs. (Just needs Sky player to join Canvas to be complete)

I would like something along the line of the new 3View box (Freeview, On Demand, Internet) with Project Canvas.
This will then have everything you will need, free and pay tv with interactive and internet features.

I would like something like BT Vision just now with the option of a Movie Service like Lovefilm (ie. I would pay xx amount and have all you can consume movies)

- but it would also need to be HD.

The thing with Vision is it has a QoS service and I really can't stand the buffering that can happen with Sky Player. This is where BT Vision excels over the competition. Just a pity that Vision doesn't have the content like Sky Sports (yet).

Lovefilm/Amazon is now on some Sony TV and Blueray players, it has had talks with Canvas

Halton showed a mock-up of LoveFilm.com as it would look via a Canvas device—the site is apparently preparing an IPTV subscription model for when Canvas launches. Lovefilm’s DVD movie rental business has been motoring during the consumer credit crunch, but, unlike its US rival Netflix (NSDQ: NFLX), its online offering is nascent and it so far lacks any set-top box or IPTV carriage - channels that will really take it to the next level as a competitor to the likes of Sky Movies

The answer MUST be DTG D book 7 (including Canvas) as the uniform platform so that everyone can provide services. Read about what is happening when at http://www.dtg.org.uk/projects/ctv/connected_201004.pdf

Project Canvas last week submitted key documents to the DTG initiative:

Project Canvas verdict looms: Funny kind of openness

Project Canvas has cleared the first of two major hurdles on the path to approval. Next stop, the BBC Trust (let's hope they get in before the government abolishes it!)

I can't see ever ditching the means of recording programmes, so some box that has the facility to record programmes. Plus I do not like watching TV on a computer or plugging the laptop in to the TV to watch TV. I like the current Virgin TV on demand, but it needs some work.

My main bitch about catch up TV is that you really have no idea what programmes will be availiable on catchup, and what is being repeated in the next few days. I'd like to see listings / EPG's show if a programme will be repeated in the near future, and to show if it will be available on catchup or not so that you can record it. There have been several incidents where I've wrongly assumed that something will be repeated, or if not made available on catchup and it hasn't.

Other than that, the V+ HD having three tuners is probably the ideal box for me with the addition of being able to play tv from all catchup services and online content. Maybe the facility to view files on a network storage drive too. I'd also prefer it to be deliverable by cable, so come on VM get working on it!

I'm more than happy to subscribe for content I want, plus I really don't have a problem with advertising on commercial channels as we still use them for loo breaks / making tea even though the programme is a recording. I just want to know if I need to record a programme or not, and being able to get all services and subscriptions on the one box.

Simples.
