If they were doing Independance day. They'd have Churchill in the lead plane

I've said elsewhere that while I wouldn't sayit was amazing, I thought it was enjoyable. I think we need to view the episode in the context of it being SM's first series and that he wants to reset as much as he can so that he can do as he pleases.

With a new Dalek race out there created from the old DNA template, we don't have 'Dalek Survival of the Series' to contend with. And while he used it to get into the story, we will hopefully no longer have to hear the immortal line "One spaceship survived and fell through time", which I think was pretty much mocked by SM with The Doctor chiming in halfway through.

Now we have Daleks that can be terrifying without being desperate. They're off, rebuilding - hopefully we won't ever again see one Dalek become 5 billion Daleks become one Dalek escaping with an Emergency Temporal Shift ever again.

It was amazing IMO. They should have had more daleks, not just one of each color, but more of the red/drones, and just one supreme, etc. But that would waste the budget.

A stunning testament to what can be achieved in a 45 minute timespan - character, pace, visuals, truly creepy moments initially as the Dalek just passes and eavesdrops on the conversation...I will be watching again after Confidential because if I want to know that Britain has Talent I will go to something that draws in every strata of talent, not something that takes 90% of earnings from a 15 year old boy and requires him to pay his expenses out of the other 10% thus leaving him in debt.

Congratulations to all concerned in "ViotD" a true modern classic...

I struggled to hear most (although possibly due to my TV) waiting for it to arrive on IPlayer

LOVED it!

The Power Ranger Daleks were awesome, and the mystery surrounding Amy is brilliant.

I'm waiting for someone to mention the Scottish agenda and demanding a tartan dalek

Really? I mean, I know RTD seems to have completely butchered and thrown away the Mondas background to his cybermen, probably with the hope that we would ambly sit by and erase it from our minds as well, but come on - these cybermen look a damm sight better than the 80's version!

The best episode of the new series for me - but the story was still lacking in a satisfactory resolution. Once again, nobody dies - except for a couple of extras, and the RTD daleks.

Also interesting that the Dalek generator didn't recognise the RTD models as Daleks

It pains me to say it, but I'm going to have to vote "awful".

After about 20 minutes, my mind was wandering. I was BORED...and I've only ever happened once before (Love and Monsters)

Matt's performance was poor. He was emotionless, and when he did try to convey emotion, it was utterly unconvincing. He saw the Daleks and just stared at them...he's supposed to be TERRIFIED of them. At times, I felt he was reading his lines off a script, rather than acting.

The Daleks, whilst it was nice to see them with lots of new colours, they were generally pointless in this episode. Presumably they'll return for another series finale. But it was a refreshing twist to see them survive.

I absolutely LOVE Amy/Karen, but yet AGAIN she is the hero of the day. The Doctor is supposed to be THE ultimate power, but Amy's bailed him out twice. She's making the Doctor look a bit...useless.

And seeing the universe crack at the end of every episode is already repetitive. I knew it would appear when the TARDIS went away, and hey presto, there it was!

Rant over. I love Doctor Who, but I don't think I've ever felt so disappointed by an episode! I hope it's just a blip.

Perhaps you're right.

Looking back at the 80's version of the Cybermen, they look rubbish now, but I was truly terrified of them as a child.

The new ones don't look scary to me but then again I'm a full grown adult so there'd be something wrong with me if I was still hiding behind the sofa.

It was actually Britains greatest WW2 air ace, Johnnnie E Johnson, by the registration JEJ on the plane.

From Wiki

"His wartime record was 515 sorties flown, 38 aircraft claimed destroyed with a further seven shared destroyed (totalling 2.91 kills), three probable destroyed, ten damaged, and one shared destroyed on the ground.[1] All his "kills" were fighters. As a Wing Leader Johnson was able to use his initials JEJ in place of squadron code letters; he scored the bulk of his victories flying two Mk IXs: EN398/JEJ in which he shot down 12 aircraft and shared five plus six and 1 shared damaged while commanding the Kenley Wing: MK392/JEJ, an L.F Mk. IX, 12 aircraft plus one shared destroyed on the ground. His last victory of the war was scored in this aircraft. He ended the war flying a Mk XIVE, MV268/JEJ.[26] His post-war mount was MV257/JEJ; it was the last Spitfire to carry his initals."

I think next week was the first episode Matt and Karen filmed because I remember Karen in an interview saying that the first day of filming was on a beach. Judging by next weeks trailer a part of it is set on a beac.

Next weeks looks good not sure if it looks scary though which is kind of what made the weeping angels soo popular

Was that bit a reference to the Imperial/Renegade Dalek war?

Just wanted to pop in to say how much I enjoyed this episode. At first I thought the Dalek aspect was a bit poor, but it soon grew on me. I'm also loving the intrigue surrounding Amy's lack of memory of the Daleks. What could that mean?!

Never thought i'd say this, but i look forward to watching Matt Smith's incarnation FAR more than i did Tennant's and definitely on a par with Ecclestone for me.

I think it was a good episode... But I can't be sure since I couldn't make out a bloody word! The sound was totally messed up

I did love the Jammy Dodger though, I understood that *nods*

Yes, Episodes 4 and 5 are always the first episodes of the series to be filmed.
