Sort of correct ... Paul McGann is not a doctor, but did play The Doctor in the 1996 Doctor Who TVM.
Peter Cushing played an eccentric elderly human scientist called Doctor Who in the 1960's Dalek movie remakes based upon original episodes from the BBC Television serial, "Doctor Who". |

Well, yes Mcgann is the Eighth Doctor, his regeneration from the seventh is quite clearly there for all to see. He has been acknowledged in flashbacks at least twice in the new series as the Doctor. Whether you liked him as the Doctor or not doesn't make any difference to that.

Cushing's character is a Doctor. But McGann's character is the Doctor. The definite article, you might say.

Just a pity they had to add the bit about him being 'half human', luckily that idea seems to have been quietly forgotten!

McGann was and is the eighth Doctor. He was the best thing about the movie (which was far from being anywhere near as bad as some people say), he's been great in the audios, he's a significant part of Doctor Who history and i for one would love to see him make a guest appearance in the show.

The TV movie had some good bits and lots of bad bits but McGann was excellent as the Doctor. I'm glad it didn't go to a series because I read the series plan in an old episode of DWM and it was awful (some claptrap about the Doctor's dad being involved in Greek Mythology or something like that). But I'd like to see McGann back as the Doctor at some point, if only as a guest stint or a flashback for the current Doctor.

Can't help but notice the OP has started two threads with basically the same title to make the same (non) point. Just trying to wind people up, I think.

That was an abortive concept that was abandoned before the movie was made. It was never a plan for the series which would have followed the movie if it had been picked up.
Phew!!!! As for the OP....well you might want to tell that to both Moff and RTD who have more than acknowledged Mr McGann!!! |

Peter Cushing actually played Doctor Who, not the Doctor. He was referred to as Doctor Who. I don't think he was a Timelord, just an inventor. I think that was the one really big difference between the two films and the tv series.
The film 'Doctor Who and the Daleks' was a scene by scene remake of the very first Daleks story. |

ok getting SERIOUSLY spooked now. where has all this agreement come from???? have I entered a parallel dimension thread???
![]() It is nice that despite differing views about aspects of Who, we are all fundamentally in agreement on the basic principles. ![]() (cue massive argument about what the principles actually are )

Very good post - I too would love to see him make an appearance. I really hope that any 50th anniversary does not rely on clip cameos as in The Next Doctor or the Eleventh Hour.

They could use lookalikes, like they did with William Hartnell
