It wasn't disrespectful for Karl Urban to take on the role of McCoy in Star Trek, it's just a character. The first, second and third Doctors are characters and I'm sure all three actors would want those characters to continue.

McGann has been shown in the new series as an incarnation of the Doctor, that's good enough for me. Quote:
