There are loads of Pie 'N' Mash shops round these ere parts - but not a single one of em does veggie pies for the likes of me!

Surely they are missing out on possible customers here and future revenue? Why can't they sell any type of veggie pie for gawd'sake?

Shame, coz I likes the mash and liquor stuff..............ah well!

I'd imagine directing your suggestion, along with accompanying sarcastic roll-eyes, to the owners of the pie 'n' mash establishments is going to be far more likely to get veggie pies put onto the menu than a post on here. I doubt the majority of us on here have the ability to change the menu options.

Go down the West Indian shop down the road from the pie n mash shop and get a veggie pattie instead. They're actually tastier than the beef/lamb ones.

Can you get me one then, to go with me mash - ta!

I haven't found one round here that does them.
You'd think they'd have to move with the times, like most other places.

There are some pie n mash shops about that do veggie pies. We have been to one in Roman road market and one in Broadway market, both of which do really good veggie pies.

Or you could do what we sometimes do, as we don't live in London anymore, but my OH works there, he buys some liquor to bring home, then I reheat it and serve it with homecooked mash and a Linda Mac pie

But isn't liquor the stuff they get from cooking the eels? I thought vegetarians wouldn't want to eat that.

From the website of a Pe & Mash shop!!

http://www.ucowson.co.uk/history.html

the eels became a speciality and sold as jellied or stewed, which would become important in the making of the green liquor, as it is said that the previous day's eel juices were not wasted but used in the making of the following days liquor. But through the many decades right up to the present day, each individual shop has its own secret recipe for the delicious green nectar. The colour of the liquor (gravy) due to the parsley content.

Tis not the end of the world coz I do eat fish - although I'd never eat an eel! Yuck!

By moving with the times I just meant - offering a veggie option, you know.

You have to check with the individual shop owner, but most don't use eel water anymore (at least thats what they tell me)

I had a really disgusting cheese-and-onion pasty from the chip shop. It tasted as if it had been fried (in its wrapper) in the oil with the fish - really oily and fishy.

However last Christmas I got the veggie version of Eat's pie and mash;the filling was chestnuts, cranberries etc. It came with mashed potato and vegetarian gravy and was truly delicious. If Eat are still doing something similar it's worth trying.

I had a veggie burder from a chip shop and a s[ring roll and a pasty/ pie thing and the exact same. Sure they fry it in the oil for longer than any other item, then microwave it and then re-fry it. They all just taste of oil and warmed up food not nice. The chips were superb from there though so it is still a favourite

Can't say I've ever seen a pie and mash shop round this way, so you're still way ahead of us even having them!
