I know this isn't a widely held or popular view but I'm really struggling to find any love for Pond.

In TEH I thought it only fair to give her the benefit of the doubt but by the end of TBB she was making me feel vaguely despondent. Now after VoTD I'm fearful that I'll never love the Pond.

On the other hand, Mr Smith goes from strength to strength. He is terrific!

I can see that Pond is a very attractive girl. But there is just something about her body language, the constant faux wide eyed indignation, the lanky adolescent fidgetyness...and something else that I just can't put my finger on that really grates.

I thought that Little Amelia in TEH was amazing but I'm not fond of the adult Pond at all.

I'd like her to be feisty but to me she comes across as an unlikeable precocious teenager.

It is obvious that something is not quite right about Pond. But I'm sure I'm not supposed to find her this irritating.

I do agree, there is something that's not clicking. Im struggling to understand the constant 'zomg she's so amazing' posts. She is good, but not superb.

I do really want to love the Pond. But I just don't like what I've seen so far. Maybe next week will change my mind. It does look like a corker!

Your not on your own, and you shouldn't feel guilty for not liking her.

I find her too hard-faced. I think she was good in the latter stages of The Beast Below though. I was hoping for a more Emma Peel type character but alas no. Still, she's not Rose or Martha so I'm not too unhappy.

She reminds me a little of Alex Salmond, i.e. there's something there that just repulses me on some primitive level.

Yea, I know what you mean. I do like her, but not massively. There's something not working, I don't feel like Im warming to her.

I don't mind her, I find her more difficult to understand than the others but I think that's because they haven't introduced much of a family with her.
In a weird way she reminds me of Doctor 10, but only a little.

Not only is the series a growing process for the new Doctor, but also for Amy. There's still time. There's an upcoming episode centred around her which I think could really flesh out her character (I think it's the Doctor-lite one?).

Something isn't clicking with me either, I liked her in the first ep but over the last two she has just not really grabbed me or really needed to be there until suddenly she can save the day from out of nowhere.

I'm hoping as the story arc kicks in something might give me a reason to 'click'

I agree. There is nothing to like about her. I cant relate to her. The companions are supposed to be a way in to make sense of situations and she just irritates me.

Despite all the criticism which RTD received for attempting to portray DW as a soap, what worked with the other companions in New Who was that they had a family around them from the first episode. This meant we got to see them as individuals, but interacting with those around them who are important.

I don't doubt with Amy that it's been done differently deliberately, but there's something about her wandering off leaving her fiance which makes her unappealing. And there is no other background to her. She lived in a house, seemingly with adults, but we didn't get to meet them, and therefore it is very difficult to put her in context. She's a good actress - far better than Martha Jones, and latter-day Rose, but unless with the benefit of hindsight having seen the whole series, there is something which clicks, she's coming across to me a bit like the redesigned TARDIS, redesgned theme tune, redesigned Daleks - change for change's sake, rather than with any guiding reason.

I'm really enjoying both Amy and the new doctor, but I do a slight niggling concern about just how quickly she seems to be coming up with "fixes" for problems the doctor has.
So far she's had a big "save the day" moment in 2 out of 3 episodes, whilst the doctor is floundering a little to find solutions. Not a huge problem yet, but it could become so if it continues.

Strangely enough, I find that Karen's settled in very well so far, while Matt's still trying a little too hard with all the quips to establish his doctor - the pairing works much better than DT and any of Rose, Martha or Donna for me though already...

Shame they didn't keep with the military green daleks though, they looked so much better than the new plasticy ones (that look like they'd be better suited to a Corsa ad...)...

You make some very good points there. I'm just glad that Matt Smith's Doctor is managing to hold everything together.

And I do hope that you are right about everything clicking into place once we have seen the whole Pond arc.

Now that I do agree with. I don't get why they had to pimp the Daleks into multi-coloured toys.

well so far she is my least favourite companian of 'new-who'. i was also hoping that by 3 episodes i would of warmed to her, but i havnt! shes OK, but if she was gone next week it wouldnt really bother me. perhaps she just needs more time! i hear shes staying for the next series, im hoping the doctor harks back to the old days and gains another companion so hes travelling with a couple of people throughout the series.

I echo your sentiments. I really want to her like but I am just not feeling it as of yet. I missed the first few minutes of this episode which might not have helped and I did warm to her in the first episode but I don't really believe in her as a character as of yet or her feistiness or flashes of inspiration. There is still time though so I have my fingers crossed! Maybe its just too much of the new who knows!
