She does have that feel to her, yes. She reminds me a bit of Tegan. A less brash, loud and annoying Tegan.

I agree . I think its awfully sad that some people cannot appreciate that women can have and give opinions and make judgments on other women or their characters that have nothing to do with some "competition" or comparison of ourselves as sexual beings.

I think it says a lot more about your views about women in general , their ability to make judgments and their ability to be critical thinkers than your theory says about women themselves.

I know. It would never occur to me to accuse a men of jealousy if they didn't like David Tennant. Looking back at the thread, you could also turn it around, and basically say that men don't use their brain when it comes to evaluating the character of Amy, but another appendage altogether.

I think you'll find I was referring to certain sections of fandom, not the entire gender. I would never be so foolish as to make such blanket statements.

However I really like the character. I particularly like the idea that she has been let down by the Doctor and that in some way at least, she has known him all her life. Far better than the fawning of some of the recent companions.

So far Donna is may favourite from the new series. I fully expected Donna to be awful (blame Peter Kay for that) but she totally won me round and was excellent. For Amy I wasn't too impressed by the stills from early production but from the moment I saw her in action I thought she was great.

How dare you disprove my beautiful theory. I loved Donna as well, I thought her and 10 worked beautiful together (I was expecting the worst for her character). I don't think Donna would work with 11 tbf. I also thought that Rose and 9 worked really well together. I actually think Amy is a stunner, lovely hair and lovely eyes (being a woman I don't do legs).

I think Amy is a mystery and as such I will wait a little bit longer, before I finally make up my mind.

Have a quick perusal around the internet for how many 'I hate Bella Swan' groups/threads/live journals there. Look at the gender of the people writing/blogging them.

Then have a look at some of the crazy harpies that write Janto fan fiction and such like and express some real venom towards Gwen Cooper. And then try and find me the equivalent where male sci-fi fans have done the same about Captain Jack- here i think you may struggle.

I'm not saying for one second that these types arent a minority as I am sure they are. But in the same way that there actually ARE male sci-fi fans who are virginal, world of warcraft playing chubby funsters who blog about star wars and live in their Mothers basement even though their 35 *(despite this being a crude stereotype), there are some slightly unhinged and hormonal females (usually sporting a celtic symbol tattoo) sticking pins in Sally Sparrow voodoo dolls and still crying into their Doc 10 duvet about the fact Mr Tennant isnt the doctor anymore. This is absolute fact!

It's interesting that SJ said, "You can tell you're getting older, your assistants are getting younger" without commenting on the fact that the Doctor himself appeared about 20 years younger than the first one she'd worked with. His "assistants" may have been getting more youthful, but not compared to him!

I think the majority of anti Karen Gillan comments, not that there are many, are likely to be from people with an unnatural anti against her good looks, or ginger people for some pathetic reason. I don't see this thread as being about Karen though, but about Amy Pond. I think the comments on this thread that pertain to Amy's character are legitimate comments even if I don't agree with them. Most people wouldn't be sad enough to come on here and take spiteful pot shots at a 22 year old actress, because she's such a beauty, unless they are very sad.
For me Amy is an interesting, multilevelled character. I love her for that. Some people arn't convinced yet. That's their right, or course! I feel strongly that the writing on series 5 is clever and will be taking us somewhere, in regard to Amy.

I fail to comprehend how you can work out anybody's age from this forum to be honest - I loved Rose, an attractive and young companion. My husband is also irritated by her - he was very keen to see how she would develop, but is finding her a complete pain - perhaps you would like to pass some generic comment about him also based totally on nothing.

One again, someone is unable to post their opinion without a ridiculous and derogatory comment being made in return.

Now you got me, I don't know. I think 11 is working with River Song, and for me Matt is this very old doctor. I think Donna and 11 were quite similar in their characters (which I mean as a positive thing), both emotional and to a certain degree scarred). 11 is free of any baggage (at the moment), he is quite alien. I think Donna and 10 worked because 10 was less alien and had compassion with Donna, and Donna had compassion with the doctor. I'm not saying that 11 won't have compassion, but he is quirky in different ways (liked him biting Amy's hand or saying to River "River, hug Amy, because I'm busy"). To a certain degree 11 works with Amy, because they are both not overly emotional and compassionate. Oh dear, I'm confusing myself here.

PS: this is not meant as DT versus MS, or Donna versus Amy.

I agree - not seeing this as an anti Karen thread from jealous female views overcome by her great beauty.

In fact, most of the comments about Karen/Amy's appearance seems to be from the men - of course, I'm not suggesting that her appearance is influencing their view of whether Amy works as a character or not

All she did was comment on the fact that she thought you are so married, or so his wife something terribly clever like that!!! It was not a solution to a predicament unlike every other episode which, to be fair, she has solved, so thank goodness for Amy Pond. I don't know why she needs The Doctor!

I could care less what she looks like. To be honest, it's always nice to have attractive people to look at, but reading the views it does seem to be the male posters commenting on Amy/Karen's appearance. I also imagine it's men who think that women spend their lives being spitefully jealous of what other women look like - we do however, recognise the fact, the women on the TV are going to be far more attractive than we are - it's part of the remit especially these days!

Karen is undoubtedly a very attractive woman - Amy Pond, for me, is a very annoying character!

I'm female and have liked most of the companions - Rose being my favourite and Donna Noble my least favourite. I love to see strong female characters in Dr Who and don't have a problem with attractive women at all. I wasn't keen on Donna Noble simply because I'm not a fan of Catherine Tate. I like Amy Pond, nice to see a female who isn't afraid or in awe of everything and Alex Kingston is marvellous as River Song IMO.

Karen Gillan seems to have not been embraced by the gay male fans though.
