What confuses me are the references in the episodes to her Scottish accent. She sounds posh and plummy to me, not Scottish at all. Am I missing something?

It is a Scottish accent, but not the usual ones we hear. Had an old uni friend who spoke in the same way, and we thought she was posh too!

And she had the same flame red hair! ( Not the same person!)

she is a bit of a social misfit, a bit of a loser with a chip on her shoulder from something from her childhood (the doctor "letting her down".)

I dont know how she could have been a kissogram, there seems to be no sense of fun in her (she rarely smiles)

she strikes me as someone who would give anyone who kissed her a good thwak LOL”

Me too. She's been travelling with the Doctor for what, about 2 days of our time? and is saving the world, making decisions for a 900+ year old alien she barely knows (despite her childhood dreams of time travel) and being rude to world leaders. Okay so there's some mystery about her that may mean she has to act this way for whatever reason (to tip off the Doctor she's not an ordinary young human girl?) but she does very little for me.

I like how she met the Doctor, and I really, really like her relationship with him. It's an interesting set up and dynamic. However, I don't really have a sense of who Amy is at the moment. Maybe it's all part of the mystery plot sounding her, which I'm sure is part of the story arc, but I would like a better grasp of her character. She's not clicking at the moment, but has potential to.

I don't warm to her either. She's okay - but I like her less than Rose and Martha and a great deal less than Donna who was by far the best assistant ever in my view.

Donna (Tate) was the WORST ever assistant.

Amy is one of the best so far.

There is just no vulnerability about her and she displays no sense of wonder at being transported to different places in time. She comes across as being quite hard and seemingly without fear. She took the daleks in her stride and her "fiesty" behaviour comes across as rudeness coupled with a degree of smugness. She is very pretty though!

I think Amy Pond is great. The only thing I've noticed is Karen Gillan has bad posture. She tends to hunch a bit due to her being quite tall. Not good for her spine or back. Tall people can have bad posture because they have to look down at shorter people.

Yeah, she was just annoying and what a loud mouth she had! Donna would make a great Jeremy Kyle guest.

I dont care for her much, but then i always liked Martha and no one else did! Only 3 episodes in but i dont she will be a classic companion.

I wish she had been on there instead of blighting Dr Who.

Well my learned ladies and gentlemen... I put it to you... in one word...

Mel...

Let it sink in... ruminate on the possibility... then compare and contrast... Amy... hmmm hmmm... I know which side my bread is buttered. Rolly wolly eyes against... Mel...

And don't let me get started on the positively motivated, bomb making, blue peter badge winning, hip for the time named, baseball ball bat weilding Ace... you think Pondie is confident with daleks... "get down professor, I'll hit it with my baseball bat and plant my home made explosives on the superior war machine of the universe... " ffs...

Amy Pond every time...

Though if you go down that route you might come up with the theory (already mentioned) that she may have more in common with Turlough than anyone else (mysterious redhead companion who isn't what he/she seems to be and has murky secrets)?

These seem to sum up Amy for me at the moment. It's strange because I really liked her in the first episode but have gone off her quickly over the last two weeks.

He never made the doctor use an exercise bike.

She sounds Inverness to me, all right. It's probably you haven't heard many Inverness accents.

I have to say I think she's great...

Although that may have a lot to do with her 'dress sense'

Lady pond ticks ALL the boxes for me: She's pretty. slim, feisty, has a nice accent, dresses nice and is ginger. There is a air of mystery about her too; bascially? She's hot

I agree with this. I liked the fact we knew Rose's mother, father (in a way) and ex-boyfriend. Even if the characters might have annoying moments they give an important background for the companion, they make us understand what's important to the companion and give them someone they are close to other than the Doctor to interact with, which is especially important when they are the sole companion, and they give them a link back to Earth. Even though Martha's family wasn't that heavily used (compared to Rose's) the link with the Master added depth and you could see the importance to Martha of her mother. Wilf was in someways an even better creation than Donna I felt. I think a companion needs a family because it makes them like most of the viewers who are watching, it makes them relatable.

On the other hand, for me the screen time given over to families is better spent on the Doctor. One or two, maybe Mickey and Wilf, were okay, but not the mothers, fathers, siblings and other hangers-on. Especially when the espisodes are so short anyway.

LOl sounds like Im lucky

but to be fair, i dont think its a fair exercise to compare previous companions who were (likely) from an era where television was a little more naff. Its a new era for television and we ask so much more now than back when there was a paper mache dragon like monster and a few really really bad actors.

Look at the Doctors we have had - chris ecclestone , david tennant- both well respected actors. We should demand the same with our companions. Sure Karen G may be a good actor (we will have to see) but the character is so poor and IMO played poorly. I did hope for more than a shouty pouty eye rolling (but attractive) companion Im afraid.

Think that's where KG said she came from in Confidential after the first episode.
