Whilst I do feel that Emilie should now be voted out (for her sake as well as the show - as has been stated several times before), I actually don't think hers was the worst vocal performance on Saturday night. Jessica's was really poor, she was out of breath most of the time and completely untuneful (almost shouting). If you listen to her on youtube and look away from the screen you will see what I mean.

I actually felt really sorry for Emilie last week. No I don't think she is the best singer/dancer/actress in the show but I think she is really being singled out with the judges comments/VT and it's unfair. I thought her vocals in last weeks show were nice and I really felt for her when she was standing there trying not to cry after her comments. Her confidence just keeps getting knocked and it seems as though rather than pick her up and help her shine they just keep knocking her down.
Her best performance so far, in my opinion, was If They Could See Me Now. She was one of my favourites after that, so let's hope she can bring it back. I have a feeling she may be in the competition for a few more weeks and become quite an underdog |

The arrogance thing could well be down to editing and I'll give her the benefit of the doubt on that but to say Emilie was best is just ridiculous. Whenever she sang the line "we're after the same rainbow's end" she wasn't able to hit the "same" note properly. The first time she almost got there but after the little dance bit she missed it by the proverbial mile.
I didn't think Emilie gave the performance of the night but I wouldn't ridicule anyone who disagrees with me. Quote:
She is so off-key it is, quite frankly, painful. The judges should have commented on this to stop it looking like they were picking on her. mentioning the dance was pointless when she was so out of tune.
Perhaps the judges disagreed with your assessment.

I certainly didn't mean to ridicule the original poster. If someone wants to vote Emilie fair enough but I just don't understand how someone can think she gave the best performance when she misses notes as badly as that. The best response from the judges would have been something like you do have talent and with proper coaching and more experience in local/amateur theatre then in a year or two you might be ready for the big stage but not yet. I think this is what ALW was diplomatically trying to say when he said her voice isn't strong enough. |

The public will NOT vote for or pay to see somebody they do NOT like so maybe "coming across as a lovely girl " is maybe a little more relevant than you think . |

I find defending her as a "nice girl" to be completely bizaare as they have barely shown her saying anything nice at all. I'm sure the usual types will crow about misrepresentation and poor editing and the like, but if she wasn't saying those things in the first place they wouldn't be able to show them. I watch a lot of these sorts of shows and I rarely feel such a strong negative to a contestant as I do to Emilie. |

well look... IF Emilie gets through all this on the swing of the public vote and the tide of love... then there will apparantly be LOTS of people that will pay to go see her skip about on the yellow brick road...
Then again... there will be lots who don't... |

I think if Emilie won she'd get ripped to shreads by the critics. She's extremely mediocre as an actress and singer. She might be alright for the fans, but for people who really like musical theatre, I'm not sure it would work out. I mean come on. Let's get serious. I don't think she's cut out to be a leading lady. I really don't see her making the show a success somehow. I've heard people in really awful girl bands sing and act better.
If she does win, it doesn't matter to me becuase I won't see it. |

But they only need a few % of the possible hundreds of thousands (millions?) of her fans to buy tickets to ensure the show is a success .

So which of the girls is a great actress, singer and convincing Dorothy and is going to make the crowds flock to the theatre to see her?
I wouldn't mind if Stephanie won although I think she's a bit 'raw' for a leading lady. Can't see any of the others doing it. Steph has a good voice but isn't Dorothy for me. Lauren is the only one I would want to pay to see. |

If she does win, it doesn't matter to me becuase I won't see it. But I understand how you might feel,as I thought the choice of Nancy was totally wrong in every respect.Lumbering, heavy and unsubtle all seem to be suitable adjectives, not very kind I know given that Jodie is actually quite warm and pleasant .When she sang for the very last time a few weeks ago,I genuinely thought it was not good, and this simply confirmed my original impression. |

I really like musical theatre - do I count?
If she wins I think I might be sufficiently intrigued to see the show and I think others might feel the same.
The show would have had massive publicity.Everyone would be honed to the best of their potential, and the Public get to see their own leading lady. |
For me it's Lauren, although I know some people say she looks too old. She has a great voice, superb stage presence and a very professional attitude. The judges seem to agree.

I think people need to think about the aspects of the performance that are subjective and those which are objective.
Whether you like someone's tone or not is subjective and that's fine, people like different things. However something like tuning is objective. You can't argue with it. Those who think that Emilie is a fantastic singer either can't hear her tuning problems or are deliberately ignoring them. Andrew is completely right to be worried about this. Insecure tuning is something that the critics will pick up on and will put off musical theatre fans. |

ALW's opinion does of course matter, but as we are all aware the Public will effectively choose Dorothy, and he will be stuck with that choice. As for objectivity.A classically trained commentator has already said that Emilie's Moon River was note perfect. So it seems even objectivity is subjective. |

The public choose their dorothy - that's what they have been asked to do. But will they put their money where their mouth is and come and see her?? Meantime, people who patronise musical theatre are expecting a certain standard. If the girl doesn't deliver, then ticket sales from these people could suffer. But yes, you're absolutely right, Andrew is stuck with the public's choice. He decided to cast this way, he has to live with the results. Emilie was out of tune in Moon River. Not as badly as she has been in other songs, but there were notes that were off. And this absolutely can be measured objectively. Sing star measures when you go off key. Charlotte was being kind, or she couldn't hear properly in the studio, which I think is a big issue. As an objective commentator, you can't argue with the statement "Emilie has tuning issues". But you can decide how important it is to you as a viewer. |

Charlotte Church whose opinion I hold higher than all the critics od Emilie , said that Emillie's voice was the closest sounding to Judy Garlands , of all the girls left. That should give her a confidence boost .

I hope she takes the positives from this experience; some had stronger voices but I saw few stronger performances.
I wish her good luck.
