Its all a bit contradictory.....

It says they are cutting numbers from 16 to 12...that they are looking for 10 new dancers meaning only 2 of the current crop will survive...and then goes on to name 8 that they want to keep!!

Brendan
Matthew
Vincent
Flavia
James
Ola
Brian
Kristina.

So if they want to keep these 8 that is only 4 new ones they are looking for ...

I think thats a load of balls to be honest. I could see them cutting a few of the old pros, but losing all of them in one swoop wouldnt work at all. And on the other thing, I bet Pamela is getting more for DWTS than the whole of last years SCD cast got combined - they would never be able to afford her.

Surely she would have a massive advantage over the other celebs even if it was true given the training she is getting right now!!

Dilly, its written by Dan Wootton, who a few weeks ago said that Kelly Osbourne was in the next series despite having Dwts already. She went on twitter to say how bemused she was and that there was no truth to it.

Its evident from reading more of his articles that he makes up half the stuff he writes.

+1 the story is a load of balls. He published the same story a few weeks ago about Kelly Osbourne.

In other news, they will be dancing in space, and Bruce will stop his jokes before every interview.

Yes, i think the rumours are just starting extra early this year and probably only a grain of truth in them.

what would they do about all the dances ?, if they cut the celebrities down to 12 then that means theres 10 weeks. they couldnt fit all the weeks in ?

It's time Anton went.
He was a total embarrassment last year over his use of racist term and was very lucky not to get the boot then.
I found the SCD format a bit stale last year and they could do with some tweaking here and there.
Dancing With the Stars is a far slicker better-produced show and they could learn much from it.

oh my God, if they get rid of Lilia..............boohoooo.........while I like Anton, it wouldn't kill me to see him go, he's had his run now, but aw Lilia............I imagine Marian Keyes will be the head of the group to bring her back, I'll be standing right behind her....

Agree with you 100% I'm honestly going to cry if this proves to be true. Lilia and Darren have been my favourites from the start. Have you signed my petition, If enough people sign then hopefully the BBC will listen

The article in the News of the World is ridiculous!! Why import stars from the American show? They would have a huge advantage on the other celebs who were in Strictly and why have Kelly Osbourne and Pam when they have only just been on the American show. Why the BBC feel the need to improve Strictly is beyond me. It has been popular for years now and people enjoy it. Change the time to stop the time clash with X Factor, perhaps a few more British professional dancers might be a good idea but not such a huge cull of the well-known pro dancers already regulars on the show. Lets be honest, a lot of the pro dancers were better known than the so-called celeb competitors this year. I had no idea who the Rolling Stone Wife Jo was!!! Never mind the so-called Olympic sports person whom I had never heard of. It was a case of "WHO" ?? as some of the competitors were introduced. Most viewers watch the show because of the celebs so perhaps a few more high profile stars this year would improve ratings.

It is amazing that journalist can write totally untrue stories about celebs, shows etc and get away with it. What is the point of reading the newspapers and magazines if so much of the information is just made up by the journalists, only to be denied a few days later by the celeb??

It's the News of the World, it's never true! It's just a complete re-write of what was in The Sun during the week - they haven't got any real news to work with, so they're sensationalising.

There's probably an element of truth in so much as the pros they've named as being wanted back probably are almost safe (Vincent, Flavia, Ola, James, Brian, Kristina, Matt, Brendan), and some of the others probably are on shakier ground. But as has already been pointed out, it's full of contradictions, and saying that Darren and Lilia are unsafe is just to create the exact reaction as has been displayed in this thread.

Maybe the BBC are looking at Darren and Lilia's body of work outside SCD (likewise Anton and Erin, although I think they really are likely to get the chop) and thinking that they could do without the show and the show could do without them, but I think D&L are held in higher regard than that - their popularity should be obvious from the amount they do outside Strictly, and the BBC would be mistaken to axe them. But I think a petition is a bit pointless as the BBC won't listen to it anyway - either their minds are already made up either way, or the petition will just bring Darren and Lilia's future to the front of their minds and then they will deice on it - whichever way they like. It's obvious they don't give a crap about licence payers and viewers.

But I think such a backlash to those claims about Darren and Lilia is an overreaction because once you read the rest of the article it's clearly total garbage - Pamela Anderson will never do SCD - she wouldn't get paid enough and she still has DWTS commitments - she might well end up on the tour over there!

I hope it isnt true!!!! Some of those pros are the most loved, best dancers and teachers they got.

I probably wouldn't go down the route of a petition... for it to make any difference realistically you'd need thousands of signatures, which you're unlikely to get on one fan forum.

Also even if they were on the brink of being axed, and then brought back to placate viewers, it would probably only be to partner the two worst old duffers in the line-up. If the producers don't see the appeal of the Bennetts, they aren't going to change their minds.

A new producer isn't going to understand how popular the Bennetts, and Lilia in particular, are. To do that you would have to have seen forums like these a few years ago, the last time either of them had actually had a decent partner. The fact that they are still so respected after being put to the sideline with Dom, Don, Richard, Jessie and Lynda, is testimony to that.

Re Darren and Lilia... I think the rumour from someone "in the know" (sorry I cant disclose who) that I was told about the pro tour back in August and the fact that the bbc was holding future strictly contracts over the heads of pros who didnt commit to the pro tour could have some element of truth in it.

I heard that although the BBC knew they couldnt blackmail Brendan (coz he would probably just put two fingers up!), but I did hear that Darren and Lilia were on particularly shakey ground since the BBC did not like the way they were making money on their own with their Latin Fever show ... (and wanted in on the act).

Also I can sort of understand the uncertainty about Ian too... I might be wrong but he has not done much between the tours - with Natalie or Camilla ... and might be wanting to take his career in another direction - although I would have thought his "tallness" was one key advantage for him being offered a contract.

I think Anton will go (definitely);
I think Erin may have decided that last year was her last year too since there was an element of "putting two fingers" up to the management with many of her flippant routines and she is newly married and may want to start a family;
I think Katya is also on shakey ground. Have seen a couple of her dancing gigs with Klaus (her Danish partner?) have also been cancelled (question is if its due to a lack of sales or not);
Aliona?? not sure but I didnt think she came over too well on the celeb tour;
Although I didnt warm to her on the series, I would think it would be stupid for the BBC to not ask Natalie back (after all they were asking her for 3 years before she came if the stories are true);

I would be very sorry if Darren and Lilia were not asked back as Lilia is probably my second or third favourite pro female after Flavia but they have been around about as long as Anton and Erin (and Camilla who quit last year)....

I dont particularly the whole story is false.. I think there are elements of truth to it... we will just have to wait and see what bits are true as time goes forward.

And I am sure they are not after 10 (as in the number) new dancers... they are after "ten dancers" who can do all 10 ballroom and latin disciplines and dont specialise in one or the other (which to a certain extent many of the current pros specialise in - most of them are Latin specialists who can "do" ballroom ... Vincent and Flavia are the only true "ten dancers" in that they always competed in both ballroom, latin, and 10 dance competitions.

I agree with this.

I too think Anton won't be back and nor will Erin, but anyone else i will be surprised about.

That's the sort of nonsensical logic you get from the BBC... loads of the pros have done their own shows, Brendan included. Brendan doesn't even do the main tour, let alone the pro tour. He can't be blackmailed, therefore he is kept on... Darren and Lilia presumably can't be blackmailed either, as they are not doing the pro tour, but they are on 'shaky ground'

Are they picking on Darren and Lilia's show because it's made more money than the others... in which case they're getting rid of pros who are so popular and talented that they can sustain a show in which they are the only attraction for two years... what an amazing way to improve ratings
