A little appreciation for Mr Moffat

Having read through the Forum today it seems that the overwhelming number of posts are critical or even scathing of Mr Moffat.
I accept that a very vocal minority will always be critical of the showrunner no matter who it is and that they will shout louder than those who are quietly enjoying the show.
I think that the generally non-vocal majority should have a chance to stand up and say and " We appreciate the efforts you and the rest of the team have put in to this series".
This isn't brown-nosing, it's simply a chance for those of us who love the series to say Thank you.
(Although I fear this thread will be hijacked by the nay-sayers who will prove my point..)

I think most people are enjoying the work he is doing with the new series.

Look at it like this; if you took this forum as evidence of the general consensus of the viewing public, you'd have thought that everyone despised RTD and everything he wrote. Yet if that were true, the show would have flopped years ago.

Same thing is now going on with SM. You'd think everyone in the country hated him and that this series is destined to fail. But it's actually just down to a very small number of people starting several threads saying how they aren't enjoying this new series. Add in a few others who agree on the thread and you're probably only lookin at a dozen people at most. Compared to the 6-8 million that tune in, it's not exactly a majority.

There's also plenty of people who have posted saying that the love Matt Smith, Karen Gillan and all the episodes aired so far. This forum is always full of highly polarized opinions.

But in the spirit of this thread, I'll add my support to the Moff and the new team. I've really enjoyed the new series so far. Victory of the Daleks, I felt, was somewhat weaker than th previous two weeks, but it still had some great, punchy dialogue that kept the story entertaining. But it wasn't rubbish, so I can happily say I have enjoyed everything they have produced this year, so far.

The Moff has proved himself to be a great writer in the past, so hopes remain high for what is still to come. Indeed, next week's episode looks epic!

I like Stephen Moffet. I've enjoyed the episodes he wrote and I like what he and his team have done with Doctor Who. Some people will NEVER be happy - no matter who the exec producer or head writer is. That won't stop them watching it though...

Fantastic stuff so far from the Moff and all. I just hope he has a thick skin after all the moaning. Still, after RTD's time in the hot seat, it'll be nothing he didn't expect...

I'm enjoying it so far, which is more than I could say last year. Not keen on the new Dalek design but that's been my only criticism so far. The Beast Below is one of my favourite episodes of recent years.

Very underrated episode that. I have a feeling it'll have a revisit in the future and be viewed very differently.

It's difficult obviously for anyone to completely reset a well-loved show, but I think it's coming along very nicely. We've all gone a bit Who bananas recently in our house, which says a lot.

I'm glad there are others that loved The Beast Below. I'd rank it just below Blink and Midnight as the best episode of New Who.

The Eleventh Hour was also great, Victory of the Daleks ok and I'm really enjoying it so far.

I'm liking the new era so far.

As for the new Daleks why am I not surprised that the red one is the drone??

It's definitely in that area for me too. Really loved it.

Like I say, considering what the Grand Moff decided to do with such a well loved series (reset the whole thing), he's done a bang up job thus far and it'll only get better. Does anyone know when we can expect the big boxset on DVD? End of the year?

It was only on last week, it achieved extremely good ratings and a very good AI...to call it "underrated" already when some people still haven't got round to watching it is ever so slightly premature

Hey, I'm only going on the general consensus and the voting on Digital Spy! It's not my fault they're all nutters.

I'm really enjoying the Moffat era but then I didn't dislike the RTD era either...I like both ..don't hurt me!

I am overwhealingly positive about the post-RTD era. It's just the new Daleks I'm not keen on.

I'm loving it too. The storys have all been good, Smith is really good and I can't wait to explore his doctor furthur and KG, aside from being some lovely eye candy, is doing a superb job also. I don't see why there are complaints. I think the show is as strong as ever.
RTD gave us some amazing episodes and some bad ones, but name a single show that hasn't? Moff isn't perfect either and no doubt some episodes will be better than others. But so far I love what he's done with the show. I think people were expecting way too much from him or just simply like moaning.

Well said Hot Dog.

As I predicted the backlash has well and truly begun.

I think all is good so far, apart from the new Theme tune, that is somthing that JNT would have come up with.

But apart from that all is good so far.

Has there really been that much of a backlash, anyway?

This has always been a programme that is never going to please everyone, so in that respect SM has done well to keep that tradition going!

Personally I love what he's done with it so far, in the most difficult circumstance of having everything and everyone completely new.

There's only one thing that I miss, and it's such a small stupid thing I don't know why I miss it but I do ... the TARDIS door, it used to squeak when opening or closing and now it doesn't, and I miss that. I guess in all the uproar about new Doctor, new assistant, new interior, new theme, new logo, new writers, new directors, new daleks etc, I'm lucky to only miss that little squeak.

Steven Moffat - splendid fellows, all of them!

As far as I’m concerned Steven Moffat can do no wrong. Everything he says about the show is spot on. All his episodes are brilliant. And he’s such a funny and likeable guy.

I was utterly delighted when I heard he was taking over. He deserves to be doing this.

Anyone who uses the word "splendid" in a sentence these days deserves my support. "Splendid" is a word that we should bring back into common usage, it's such a nice round sounding word.

BTW There is no sarcasm intended or implied in this post.

Isn't this the problem though - that a number of people for whatever reason latched onto SM and put him up on this pedestal over the last four years, as if only he could write the killer DW episodes and anything that RTD touched was rubbish?

This lifting SM up as some kind of perfect writer, particularly while feeling the need to insult anything that the other man did, set him up with an impossible standard to maintain as the main man. I would imagine Mr Moffat would have far more respect for RTD and his work than many of his fans do.

The expectation on this week's episode, with both River and the Weeping Angels, is going to be almost impossible to live up to, particularly while the new leads are still settling in.

Hopefully they'll soon fully establish themselves, and maybe even the Doctor will step upto the plate a bit more (rather than having Amy have to save the day again!).

Just a real shame that the last two stories, which started well and had lots of potential, seemed to lose their way a little and not provide a satisfactory ending (particularly VOTD, and the awful sub-star wars sfx). And as for the Dalek rebranding for the toy market, a bit of a let down really - particularly after the great military green Daleks (especially the Tea Daleks) .

Perhaps SM should get in touch with RTD and get his honest thoughts on how it looks to him, as the pair of them working together seemed to be a real strength for the show...

I try to use the word "splendid" every now and again, usually in written sentences rather than spoken ones. However, my post was actually paraphrasing something the Brigadier said in Five Doctors.
