Songs they could do a bit of acting with, Jessica and Stephanie would excel with musical numbers

Yes, I agree - musical songs would be a much better indication of who could be Dorothy.

Well I'm sure one week early on in the Nancy one, they all sung musical songs, I think it was week 3 or 4. So, they should do the same for this one.

They did a movie week, so not necessarily MT songs. Although two of those songs were used last night and lets just say the Nancys beat the Dorothys.

I'm DYING for a musicals week, I think quite a few of them could do so much better with musical songs, since I think it would be more in their comfort zone! Plus I just generally prefer musicals to the rubbish pop they force them to do every week.

I totally agree! I'm sure Sheila and ALW would agree too.

I'm so sick of the endless samey pop week after week.

The trouble is, when they do have a nod towards musical theatre, the shows are always the poppier ones - like this week's efforts from Fame and Dreamgirls, so still songs that tell you nothing about the girls' potential in a classical musical theatre role.

Plus ... really would be so much more relevant to what we are being asked to vote on ....

I think we should have a Rogers and Hammerstein week and a Sondheim week.

And what about a Judy Garland week?

Or just to inflate his self-importance even more, an ALW week?

The show would be of a much higher quality with decent songs. The role of Dorothy is a classic role, and despite ALW saying they want a new, fresh, edgier Dorothy, we also need a class act with bags of class and talent. This would sort the wheat from the chaff.

Couldn't sleep last night, so had a go at picking musicals songs for the girls

What do you reckon?

Stephanie - Don't Cry For Me Argentina (Allows her to demonstrate her singing and dancing abilities, and I've heard it sung by a Scouser before lol)

Emilie - Close Every Door (She might be able to connect some of her frustration at the judges' comments etc with this song, could stretch her vocally)

Danielle - Fame (Poppier, but as the judges says, she needs to try something more joyous. The sentiment is "look what I can do" - which worked for her in Just A Little Girl.)

Steph - Let's Fall In Love (I know this from the Cole Porter film musical De Lovely, sure it's from a stage musical as thar was his genre - great lyrics and vocal possibilities!)

Sophie - I Don't Know How To Love Him (Quite a stunning song, although it's not overtly sexy the subject matter's better suited to someone not showing that side already)

Lauren - Tomorrow (Very Dorothy, moves her away from sexy Sway stuff, gives her a chance to sing MT and make herself appear younger)

Jenny - As Long As He Needs Me (She needs more of a showstopping moment, and to connect more emotionally, this song might help her to stand out more!)

Jessica - Somewhere That's Green (Her bizarre mannerisms might suit Little Shop Of Horrors, but this particular song gives her a chance to showcase her vocals too.)

Brilliant choices. I also think Jessica could give Things Ain't What They Used To Be a right go, and maybe Stephanie could sing Cabaret? (Just cos I LOVE her dancing)

Aw thanks, what's Things Ain't What They Used To Be from?

Not sure if I know it or not

I love everything about Stephanie! Cabaret would be another fab choice for her - she'll probably have time to do that as well as DCFMA! She'll probably make the final!

Fings Ain't Wot They Used T'Be

It's not a typical musical, I haven't actually seen it but they sang it on IDA and it's quite good.

Aw thanks - enjoyed reading about the show and revisiting the Nancys! They did a great job with that!

Not too keen on Jessica as a vocalist, but that wouldn't matter too much with a song like this so it's probably better suited to her than my choice of Somewhere That's Green, that might stretch her too much lol

I've been saying all along on her thread that I think Danielle should sing "I'm In Love With A Wonderful Guy" from South Pacific.

I would also like to hear Stephanie try out something more vulnerable, like "On My Own" from Les Mis.

I'd have to think some more to come up with songs for the others.
