Why were the old Daleks classed "unpure"?

If I recall correctly, Davros created them with cells from his own body sometime before the events of The Stolen Earth, and as he created the Daleks, wouldn't that be classed as "Pure Dalek"?

Just didn't quite understand that part, other than that it was a pretty good episode - Hope we get to see these new Daleks again.

They have been 'contaminated' with human DNA.

No those human DNA ones were created by the Emperor in the 9th Doctor/Rose story and were all turned to dust at the end of the episode.

Saturdays 3 Daleks were presumably survivors of 10th Doctor/Donna's story.

I'd guess the new Daleks are made from "Perfect" Dalek DNA while the last lot were made from Davros's cells and weren't as perfect in the eyes of the new rainbow Daleks.

It made sense to me while watching the episode that they were Human DNA Daleks from Bad Wolf/The Parting of the ways, hence the new Dalek's motivation to exterminate them.

Is there something I missed in the episode that shows they were Davros' Daleks from Stolen Earth/Journey's End?

No, the Daleks even bumped off Davros in the Genesis Of The Daleks for not being a pure Dalek. "Geneisis" was the story of the Fourth Doctor being sent back in time to stop the Daleks being created by Davros initially. So the Daleks from The Stolen Earth who were cloned from Davros were more like Dalek-lite, not pure Dalek.

This whole "pure" Dalek malaky stems waaaaay back long before the 9th, 10th and 11th Doctors. For newer fans it is confusing, it's a pity it couldn't of been explained in more detail in VOTD.

Davros was a genetic scientist who was constantly perfecting and re-perfecting his creations. That meant for every step on the way, the next batch of Daleks would see anything previously created as unpure.

There's a history of it, Remembrance is the one that deals most directly with the issue.

It's possible the Dalek DNA in the sample comes from a much later experiment, whereas Davros using his own DNA to start over means going back to DNA basics.

So the Emperor's half Daleks, Davros's Daleks, the new Daleks would all regard each other as having different levels of perfection or imperfection.

A few assumptions...

• Saturday's Daleks are survivors from the last Davros story.

• Those Daleks, although created from Davro's body tissue, presumably contained some of Caan's DNA seeing as he was the last surviving Dalek.

• Caan is a veteran of the time war which was almost certainly fought by the imperial Daleks.

• Those imperial Daleks were made from human tissue during Revelation.

It seems a bit revisionist to me to say the Stolen Earth Daleks aren't pure since in The Stolen Earth a lot is made of them being a "fully fledged Dalek Empire at the height of its power" rather than being the "scavengers, human hybrids and mad" Daleks of Parting of the Ways.

I also don't really follow Daleks being impure because they were created from cells of Davros' body. The Daleks were created from Kaled DNA in the first place, and there wasn't any other Kaled DNA to hand so Davros created them from cells of his own body. There's nothing non-Dalek about them like the Parting of the Ways Daleks so why are they not pure?

Going back to Parting of the Ways, 9th tells the Human DNA Daleks:

“The stink of humanity… you hate your own existence”

Now, wouldn’t it make sense that a Dalek that allows itself to be exterminated for being “inferior” is one that hates its own existence?

Hence my opinion that it is more likely that the VOTD survivors are Human DNA Daleks.

As I understood Genisis of the Daleks - Davros took Kaled DNA, which was already being mutated by the radiological/chemical effects of the war with the Thals, and then took it to its logical conclusion. Thus pure dalek DNA is more than normal Kaled DNA.

The original Daleks were created from genetically engineered mutated Kaled DNA. Davros is a Kaled, not a Dalek mutant but simply a crippled, radiation poisoned Kaled. So Daleks made from his cells would not be pure Daleks in the eyes of the progenitors.

Ah, OK, haven't watched Genesis for quite a while, thanks for that guys, makes a little more sense. I still think that having played up the purity of the Daleks in The Stolen Earth, to kill them off for not being pure was a bit cheap.

It could simply be that the old ones looked different so they had to be inferior to the new ones.

Original Daleks are mutant Kaleds,
Davros is a Kaled

Kaled is an anagram of Dalek

That's a bit ironic, if they are mutants, then they are all unpure by definition.

Davros originally developed the the Dalek unit as a mobile life-support unit. The Kaleds were been mutated because of nuclear war with the Thals on Skaro.

Yes. It is. But Davros is not a mutant Kaled. He's inferior as far as they're concerned.

Davros artificially accelerated and refined the mutation, though-it wasn't random. The Dalek mutants were what he believed to be the ultimate form of his race.

Actually davros's appearance or what originally happened to him has never fully been explained. So you cant rule out any form of mutation.

Their parent Daleks had been sleeping with Belle Du Jour

They just weren't originals. That's the same as inferior in their eyes. They're a bit like Doctor Who fans.

Don't remember exactly how it was phrased but there was a line in there about one ship escaping from the imperial fleet or the Medusa Cascade or something to that effect.

Parallels with the Nazis. The master race is supposed to be superior in health, stature and intellect to other races. Something Georing (sweaty and fat although to be fair he was a flying ace) Himmler (sickly, bad eyesight, stick thin, puny) and Hitler (stupid moustache, lungs knackered by mustard gas, terrible flatulence, one testacled etc etc) definately were not. Didn't stop them though saying they were Aryan though.

It's very vague as to which Daleks they actually were I think.

It is mentioned about them falling back in time which the Emporer Dalek did before creating the new Daleks in Bad Wolf

But it's certainly not obvious which Daleks they're suppsoed to be
