It is "live" and as I thought, they stay in LA when they're doing the series. It's only when it clashes with Strictly that they have to fly back and forth.

Don't know about Bruno, but Len doesn't stay in LA for the entire duration of DWTS, although he doesn't fly back and forth every week as he does when SCD is on.
