I've just released. Her new Remix album cover is a complete Kylie rip off. Even stuff from the Fame Monster are stolen from Kylie.

Its bad enough she steals from Madonna, David Bowie and Grace Jones yet now it is Kylie.

Seriously. I love Gaga but she needs to start getting her own ideas instead of ripping off all those before her and claiming to be unique when she isn't.

She probably thinks because Kylie is unknown in America she can get away with it. Well she can't.

She was never original, all her looks are derived from previous work...it's nothing new. Roisin Murphy is the No.1 person she ripped off imo.

How dare you use her name in the same sentence as him. She doesn't deserve to compared to him!

Her music is very, very average and probably wouldn't get too much attention, so by dressing like a freak she get's the attention she craves.Blah blah blah. How original

That cover looks nothing like Gaga's! If that's a rip off then I could find a million other rip-offs by other artists.

F*** me, some people really will try and find any little reason to say 'OMG Gaga rips off everyone else!'. No matter what she does, there will always be people who will look for the smallest similarities so they can write the kind of sh!te we can see here. Grow up, seriously, it's getting so tedious.

People only point out the similarities because theyre so obvious. Granted, some of them are just desperate to pin blame on to her but she is a shameless rip off.

I agree.

All of these people ripped off Little Richard, Josephine Baker and David Bowie in the first place. They were the ones who brought vaudevillian weirdness from the theatre to the art and musical spheres.

I like Madonna, but she's done her fair share of copying herself...

Rip off or inspired?

She's openly said a lot of her work is inspired and motivated by such artists. What's wrong with that?

The one the OP pointed out in this thread is certainly NOT obvious. They look nothing alike.

If you think that's a 'rip-off' then I guess you scream rip-off at everything. You could easily look for those 'similarities' in absolutely anyone if you wanted, but if you hate Lady Gaga then it's an incredibly easy thing to do. You take the tiniest thing and make out that it's a total copy of someone else.

You all just bandwagon-jump the haters, it seems the 'cool' thing for anyone who hates Lady Gaga to look at everything she does and say 'OMG she ripped off so and so'

I hope your constant 'you this, you that' isnt directed at me - as I said, alot of people just pick the smallest things to criticise when it comes to Gaga. Saying that, her entire act is made up of other peoples ideas - other artists, performers, her 'Haus of Gaga' (pretentious bulls**t coverup her management team) etc.

I agree with this, she has said that she looks up to her idols in a way that she can gain ideas, etc. which really is like a compliment.

She's always been open about her influences and her musical knowledge is impressive.

What annoys me is how everything she does gets called a rip-off. When new artists and bands come along, people point out their influences and mention other artists they are similar to. They mention those similarities as a positive thing, as they should do. But with Lady Gaga, you just get people who simply say 'OMG rip-off' instead of 'she is influenced by', 'is in the same vein as' etc.

That's what I mean when I say it's an incredibly easy thing to do to say she copies everyone else, because people could just as easily do that with any new band or artist that comes along, but no-one chooses to because they don't hate them.

All modern artists are influenced by previous artists just as they were by the ones before them etc. They just put their own spin on it.

There have always been artists who have worn wacky costumes.

I don't think GaGa has ever said she is totaly original and has been very open about who she is influenced by.

Whatever the case she certainly has the knack of turning out brilliant pop songs.

I think most peoples criticisms stem from the fact that they just find her MUSIC really avergage.. style and attention seeking aside.

Lots of my fav bands have been inspired by other artists to the point where the media branded them as rip-offs, for example Empire Of The Sun were accused of ripping off MGMT when they first came out but in my opinion they are generally a better band. Lady Gaga's has taken ideas from other people but just diluted it to the point where its just average and forgetable in my opinion

Bowie wasn't averse to nicking stuff either tbh.

Most of her songs sound identical to the sound of Gwen Stefani's solo stuff from a few years ago.

Even tries to replicate the timbre of Gwens vocals.

spot on!

in this day and age just who IS original anyway? ... nah... i dont mind modern artists raiding retro ideas as long as they do it well, imho gaga is a great pop star, she produces stunningly good music ... i say that with reluctance because i dont subscribe to the image or the hype.

I agree, the first thing I look for in an artist is the music, everything else comes after that. Her music is crap IMO!

well of course you don't agree, you're a fan, which is fine... i was reffering to her critics who feel that she's taken her influences and moulded it into average music that plays second fiddle to her grandiose persona. style over substance basically.

im not a fan of gaga (or anyone), im a fan of good pop, imho thats what gaga produces. at 53 i AM reluctant to subscribe to modern music as being 'as good as what it used to be', and im not saying gagas music is as good as the best from the past (time will tell). her persona means nothing to me, image is for the kids to get excited about, ive witnessed far more outrageous images then hers! lol. im not bothered what the critics say (most of whom are probably young enough to be my kids), i make up my own experienced mind.... thats why i rate gaga, because release after release i find myself liking and respecting her well produced tracks.

100% agree with all this.

On top of that of course we are all constantly being told that every new song that comes it is copying Gaga's style.

We're also being told for example by Gagas fans that Christina Aguilera's new look is modeled on Gaga (by Akon too) despite the fact Christina discussed this album and vibe 4 or 5 years ago.

So fans of Gaga constantly bombard us with "ZOMG LOOK SUCH AND SUCH IS COPYING GAGA" when actually Gaga is nothing more than a schmuck who has blatantly ripped off many artists looks herself.

It's the sheer hypocrisy that grinds my gears.

I also think that if she released her album "Fame" without her rip off style, and constant media whoreage it would have been no where near as successful. You just have to look at Digital Spys review around it's release before you actually knew what clothes she wore and what way she presented herself.

Of course fickle people then see her pictures, her interviews , her "avant-garde" style and think she's hypercool and by her records. Simple really.

She a money making machine.

Chrstina Aguilera, and Gwen Stefani (especially the latter's solo material) deserve more than thank you notes. . . .they almost deserve a share of her profits!
