With Or Without You.. my fav song of all time.

ps stupid_cube, Bad was from The Unforgettable Fire

The new album is to be released in September. The band were doing a photo shoot for it in Portugal a couple of weeks ago.

*bad* is one of my faves too - have a copy of the 13 minute version from LiveAid which is just absolutely fantastic.

And by the end of the year Iain, you should have that fantastic version of Bad on DVD when the official Live Aid release happens!!!

I remember when a journalist once said of U2 "they've gone from a dodgy Dublin pub to global domination, armed only with a root note, a straight beat, an echo pedal and some sunglasses". A bit unfair maybe, because he forgot to mention some fantastic songwriting too.

There are so many U2 tracks I love (though nothing since Achtung Baby, I'm afraid). I'd suggest any of the singles from The Unforgettable Fire or The Joshua Tree.

i know - am really looking forward to it. on eof my biggest regrests was not taping liveaid (i think we just about had a video by them).

was always surprised it was never released - even if not the entire thing, but at least a highlights.

and if i don't get tickets to see them next year i'll probably cry. (although it'll be hard to top the outdoor zoo tv shows)

Has anything been at least vaguely anounced about live gigs?

yup - the band are doing a new book for their 20th anniversary next year - *u2 on u2* or something a fab looking coffee table type thing written by themselves about themselves - and its coinciding with a tour next year following the new album.

i don't have may u2 exclusives, but thats the plan apparently.

(if you could reasonably describe *u2 to tour* as much of a scoop that is)

I've never been a big U2 fan especially but I do think there are oen fo those bands I would just LOVE to see live.

As for song..it's a toss up between Pride and All I Want Is You (such a simple beautiful song).

ikkleosu, you HAVE to see them live, if just once. The last tour was just magical. Different set lists from time to time, awesome visuals, great sound and some of the fans (like me) were lucky enough to get into the heart section then it was like you were in a small club. Awesome.

The tour should start in the 'States in early 2005.

absolutely agree - they are superb live. the zoo tv show was just the_most_amazing_show ever. the sheer scale of all those tv screens - real visual feast, and fantastic music the soundtrack.

the intro to *where the streets have no name* with all the screens blood red, and the hundreds of white spotlights that flew around the stadium as the guitar came in was just awesome, and i don't think i'll ever forget it. - there's video (may not be dvd) of that show - definitely worth getting.

I still think Zoo TV was one of THE greatest music tours in history. It pioneered a host of new technology and innovation to the rock and roll circus. The stage and infrastructure was literally a mobile TV station (they had to put two bright red lights on their masts to warn incoming aircraft of the sheer size of the structures) they used their facilities to the maximum, tuning into local TV and radio stations as well as calling up the odd President of the United States of America when they were bored . It was just epic.

I never got to see the shows, but I have plenty of bootlegs from that tour, as well as the Live At Sydney video tape (hopefully they will put that onto a DVD set for christmas). No one ever came close to producing a show before that tour started in 92, and I dont think anyone has got close to the sheer level of genius that ZooTV was, since.

It's a shameless plug, but fans of more recent U2 might do well to investigate Marillion's recent albums. They sound far more like the Irish rockers than Genesis these days, especially on a track like "Between You & Me".

I'm not a huge U2 fan, but my favourite U2 song has got to be either With or Without You or Beautiful Day.
