being in his top 5 are voted out and he is left with the ones he thinks are not up to par?

I mean, he does have the final say, but at the moment he has had to make a difficult decision between two talented Dorothys, for the last three weeks.

Unfortunately, the more talented contestants are not getting the votes and ALW is approaching a nightmare scenario.

In the end SOMEONE has to win, but how will he feel if the winner is someone who is the best of a bad bunch?

I expect if he gets a winner who is just not up to the job and not cutting the mustard in rehearsals for the show he will sideline them and gently ease them out altogether. Cant see him staking his reputation by putting an also run in as his leading lady. I am sure he will have ways and means

If it looks like going that way, steps will be taken to steer things in the 'right' direction. He will know how each of the girls has been doing in the public vote each week. It may be that the time has already come for him/the producers to do something about the way things are handled. For one thing, they won't repeat the mistake of putting their favourite contestant(s) on at the end of the show while BGT is on ITV.

If he didn't think any of them was up to it they would never have been put into the top 20, therefore I believe that he has faith that any single one of those 20 girls is perfectly capable of handling the role, regardless of whether she is among his two or three or five top favourites or comes lower down his top 20 list.

Dont forget it wasnt his choice alone when it came to the top 20 or the top 10 and I expect he had to give in on some of those included. Down to him alone there is no way in this world he would have included Amy so I cant agree with you that he thought they were all suitable or could handle the role.

They'll go a long way to fix it with Song and Wardrobe choice... and then if they get a 'sub par' Dorothy then they'll have her doing three matinee's a week instead of the full run.

I'm not sure how long they have this time to get up to speed. For the Maria's and the Josephs the gap between winning and starting the full run was quite short, but with the Nancy's there was a good 6 months (I think) to get Jodie trained up.

I do think it's funny how Macintosh *really* didn't want Jodie Prenger as Nancy, but she now seems to be really popular with the BBC - doing the lottery and the search for Toto stuff.

Overall the voting public for these shows is a smidge more sensible than the Xfactor/BGT/BB crowd and in the end will vote for a good Dorothy.

I certainly hope the tween vote will only keep Emilie in for a maximum of two more weeks :/

Do you think it could ever come down to ALW fixing the bottom 2 one week just to get rid of someone?!

I mean if things got desperate, i.e if we were at the semi-final stage with 4 left and needing to send one home, and say it was Stephanie with the lowest vote, and we were therefore heading for a the top 3 comprising of a very talented but perhaps less popular Lauren for example (only saying this as she has been bottom 2 once) and then a less talented, most noticeably in the vocal stakes, but seemingly very popular Emilie and Jessica as the other 2.

Would/could ALW fix it so we had either Stephanie or Lauren, more talented, vs. Emilie or Jessica, the less talented, in the bottom 2 so ALW could make a tactical decision and get rid of a weak link?

I honestly don't think he is allowed to - the BBC couldn't risk the scandal if it was leaked that the votes were tweaked. Apparently all the votes go to an outside company. I have heard on good authority that the judges really don't know the results until the girls are told. That why since, IDA, it has been a problem to get ALW to agree to do one of these casting shows again. So yes, it is a risk

Yeah, if it's someone he really doesn't want I reckon he'll get an alternate who he does want (not necessarily someone from the competition) and only have the winning Dorothy doing some of the shows each week!

I think there'll probably be a gap about the size that there was with the Nancys, possibly bigger - mainly because ALW doesn't actually have a theatre for it yet. From the sounds of things he wants it in either the Palladium or Drury Lane (he keeps going on about how they'll be playing to 2500 people each night), but both Sister Act and Oliver! are selling well at the moment so it might be a while till The Wizard of Oz moves in.

He'd call for Sarah Lark.

It would be interesting if Emilie did win. She is clearly not upto the task in terms of heading a major west end theatre show but if the popular/sympathy/annoy-the-judges vote saw her go all the way to the final then it would leave ALW in a very difficult situation.

I expect he would have to put out some kind of press release saying Emilie isn't able to handle so many shows and give her two or three a week with the rest going to someone else. it would be a bit embarrasing for her and him and would ensure we'd never see him involved in another show like this again

When David Ian did Grease is the Word over on ITV there was a contestant who was being voted through by the public who had a stammer such that he couldn't read his lines properly. So, in the semi final they had the judges vote off one of the contestants before it went to the public vote. David Ian hasn't done a reality casting since.....I'm sure if his back was against the wall ALW would do something rather than let someone totally incapable get the job. Either that or the contract for the part would be subject to termination in the event of inability and the winning Dorothy would then be swiftly fired on day 1 of rehearsals to be replaced by a seasoned professional.

He could have a special show where all the girls that he doesn't rate wear halloween costumes, and sing clasics from the south park movie. While his favourites sing Judy Garland numbers. And wear dazziling gowns.

Then he could post fake videos of the girls he least likes all over the web, saying nasty things about the public, and the other girls.

Due to the indisposition of .... Dorothy will be played by (insert name of Cosette/Eponine understudy, Bet or Liesl on loan ) until further notice..........

Kills the next show though.

ALW's rubbish at picking out the best on these shows, so if someone in his top 5 doesn't win I'm sure they'll be great at the role.
