I mean if things got desperate, i.e if we were at the semi-final stage with 4 left and needing to send one home, and say it was Stephanie with the lowest vote, and we were therefore heading for a the top 3 comprising of a very talented but perhaps less popular Lauren for example (only saying this as she has been bottom 2 once) and then a less talented, most noticeably in the vocal stakes, but seemingly very popular Emilie and Jessica as the other 2.

Would/could ALW fix it so we had either Stephanie or Lauren, more talented, vs. Emilie or Jessica, the less talented, in the bottom 2 so ALW could make a tactical decision and get rid of a weak link?

I hope that makes sense - it does in my head ”

They couldn't defraud the public, who are literally paying to keep their favourite contestants in the show. However Emilie's already getting the same kind of edit they gave Seamus in ADWD, and that soon got rid of him.
(A pity, because I thought Seamus was one of the best.)

I'll find it difficult to conceal a secret satisfaction as the winner is announced.

I wasn't a fan of Jodie (I mourn Jess) - but I will confess to an inner chuckle when she thwarted ALW - inappropriate I know; childish perhaps but oh so human.”

There's a limerick in there Ignazio

I looked at the final in glee
Emilie was in the last three
Fiddley dee and ho hum
The wildcard had won

They have all sorts of ways of manipulating the vote legally.

The favourite gets a positive VT when all of the others are shown moaning wailing or bitching about the others

The favourite gets a great or well loved song and a fab frock to wear - the others get dreadful, difficult to sing or little known songs and awful outfits (they tried this one with Jodie last year with Send in the Clowns and 9-5 which she nailed 100% - you could almost hear ALW gnashing his teeth!)

The favourite gets the money lines in the group songs and ends up near the front in the routines - the others get the forgettable/ difficult lines and shoved to the back.

The favourite gets criticised for a fab performance - the also ran gets praised to the hilt for a mediocre one - favourite gets the sympathy vote - especially if they can let the viewers see that they are shocked and upset by the comments.

The favourite gets a performance slot last or very late in the running order so their performance is fresh in the viewers minds when the lines open. The one they want rid of goes on early.

The favourite gets a stunning song and is put up against the duffer with a bad song guaranteed to be poorly performed so we can see just how good/ bad they are.

Just watch over the next few weeks to see how many we can spot being put into practice

Watch for any all of these

Some of them have already been in evidence. They will need to step it up (or try different tactics), though, if things are really going badly wrong according to their desired results.

Emilie and Stephanie have both performed one after the other for the last 2 shows. I've never seen than before and it stuck me as rather odd with so many girls left to put in an order. If the reason above is why then it's very cruel considering they both seem very close.

Great points..... and I think the main one to watch certainly next Saturday, is who is scheduled to sing during the last 25 mins when BGT is on. I'd lay money Emily is dumped into this slot. They can't afford to do it every week or it would certainly be pounced on, but they could give it a good go on Saturday and hope for the best.

I don't think it will make a difference to be honest.
Emilie came with a big fanbase which seems to be getting bigger and bigger.

As I said before que sera sera!

I heard this argument too (on why Danielle might have been bottom 2 this week). My thoughts are: the people who defected to BGT wouldn't vote anyway, if they can't be bothered to watch the whole program, why would they be bothered to vote?

OR if they can't be bothered to wait for this contestant to perform then chances are, they wouldn't be bothered to vote for her either.

Haha, love conspiracy theories. I do believe they try to fix these shows too. Maybe "fix" isn't the right word - "manipulate the voters to get what they want" probably. Both BBC and ITV, IMO are guilty in this.

I think we need to really try and establish ALW's top 5 before we think about this.

I for one was kind of surprised to hear him say last week that Bronte and Lauren were in his personal top 5. So now that Bronte has gone, we have his top 4 left in by the sounds of it. Lauren is one of them and we can make a good bet that another is Danielle for lots of reasons. The Lord really didn't seem too bothered by sending Dani home and his comment to her after her performance hinted strongly that he liked her but didn't think she was ready or right.

So, who are the other 2 in his personal top 4? I for one really can't figure it out. It doesn't seem to be Steph or Jenny, certainly isn't Emilie so could be Jessica, Sophie or Stephanie. However, 2 of those 3 are performing under-par currently. They're still good, but they don't seem to be impressing him as much as they could.

Do you guys remember when he had a strop and stormed off when Niamh was in the bottom two? I thought he would do that with Danielle but he was surprisingly calm. I do think she's The Chosen One but I do wonder now whether he is hedging his bets now and look to the other girls that are lower in his list - ie Stephanie.

I agree Diorelli and must say I'm surprised we didn't see a more explosive reaction when two of his top 5 were in the bottom 2 - Lauren and Bronte. He just seemed a bit deflated. I think he is just as unsure of where this is all going as the rest of us...

Actually, I have another theory for why ALW didn't throw a fit this week. I think he's realized that blatant favoritism can draw a negative reaction, so he kept calm this week.

Exactly. One would hope he would have the intelligence to learn a lesson from his mistakes of last year (not that I was at all sorry to see him thwarted last year).

The crowd were enraptured, they roared
Sweet Emilie had reaped her reward
She smiled as she lingered
Then gave a two fingered
Salute to the furious Lord.
