The Matt Smith Love-In
Deano0510

When will this start?

I know for me the DT love-in did'nt start until 'The Girl in the fireplace' (4 episodes in). This showed a soft side but also a heroic side to the doctor.

I hope Matt has the chance to win us over like that.As it stands (I know only three episodes has passed), I cant feel it coming.

I still haven't warmed to him personally yet, and I feel its changing the way im watching the stories.

Will he get a big chance to let us love him like most of us did with DT?

I think the Moff is going to make us admire the new Doctor rather than love him. That's the way it used to be; the Doctor is crazy, funny, grumpy, heroic and self important all at once. Very admirable

You do need that connection with the doctor tho...... That thing which makes him admire the human race. Emotion.

This is where DT will not be beaten.... I wonder how Matt's Doctor will drag us in......

Its intriguing to watch him develop in this role, when you consider we arent actually watching the epidodes how they were filmed.....

My feeling is that Smith is more similar to Tennant than any other doctor has been to their predecessor. The main differences are more superficial ones (i.e. clothing, his 'look'). That's not neccessarily Smith's fault, and is as much to do with the way his doctor has been written. And of course, in 'The Eleventh Hour', the doctor was deliberately written in post-regeneration mode, taking on certain of his predecessor's characteristics.

But to be fair and balanced, we're only 3 episodes in to the series. A proper assessment can only really be made once the series is over. Smith is doing a decent job so far.

It started for me the moment he appeared in Amy's garden. Very deliberate continuation of DT's mannerisms ("...still cooking!") but quickly settling down into a very Troughton-esque style, which (much as I really admired his predecessor) blows DT out of the water.

That's not a criticism of DT... it's testament to the skill and ability of MS to achieve that in the face of who he'll be constantly compared with.

A very sweet moment, but I was more impressed with his acting than I was of his Doctor at that point.

I did enjoy the montage of past doctors, I got a small bit of pee in my boxers when he said ' Hello, Im the Doctor' (along those lines).

Im still waiting for 'that' moment when he explodes in a moment of madness and genious, combined with out of control emotion and complete insanity, but at the same time in full control!!!!

Especially Troughtonish in Victory of the Daleks, with deliberate nods to Troughton's two Dalek stories.

I was worried after the 1st episode (I found it too frantic), but the last two episodes I think Matt Smith settled in well.

Smith breezed into it for me, and I've loved his Doctor from the get-go. Nothing I've seen thus far has changed that opinion.

Same here. I loved him from the moment he asked for an apple. I've said it before and I'll probably say it again, but for me he's the best Dr since Tom Baker.

How can you be so sure after three simple episodes? They havent been very in depth, or taken us on a ride of emotion just yet?

Still alot to prove as far as im concerned.

Wish I likd Dr Who more . Im one of those people that dips into it occasionally. Usually catch a lot on BBC 3 or 4 when they repeat them years later

Seen a few of all the Doctor Whos

Eccleston was disappointing to me, liked Tennent at times. Though Smith wasnt bad at all in the 1st one. 2nd one he really clicked for me. Hes kind of loveable . Like all the stuff everybody else doesnt wierdly etc.

The teacher clothing, geronimo catchphrase and he sounds like tennant & troughton on occasions which gives him a bit more of a epic timeless feel to me. Find him more believable than a lot of the others too

Him and Tom Baker as the Dr's are the most endearing and likeable for me..... so far

He's certainly the most 'naturally mad' since Tom.

I'm liking him a lot.
Reminds me of Wilko Johnson from Dr Feelgood to look at.
Reminds me of Michael Palin to listen to
Reminds me of John Ottway for eccentricity.
3/3 aint bad !

I don't think it's too impossible to imagine for him to be someone's immediate favourite Doctor. Less so for the Tennant faithful, but I can certainly imagine how a lot of the older fans may have been wowed a bit.

For me personally I can't say he's my favourite yet. That honour is still Toms. But if things continue to go well then yes, I can see him up there for me. There's just something a bit spesh about him in the role. I hope he stays for years.

I'm liking Smith a lot. He can be eccentric without it
being "forced", and he has a strength that came through
in TBB and VOTD.

I think the Matt Smith love-in is well under way already.....people have had criticisms of the last episode but very few have been critical of Matt, quite the opposite.

I was unsure at first as I hadn't really seen him in anything else, well only The Ruby in the Smoke and Secret Diary of a Call Girl (but then I didn't really know him when he was in them)
And I wasn't that struck on him in The End of Time, but I think that was mostly because I was still sad over David as he had just regenerated (and I am sad to admit that David's final words still don't upset me as much as what proceeded them, but that could be by that time I am all cried out.. )

But I loved him from the moment he nearly got castrated by Big Ben.. and when he popped his head out of the Tardis.. I knew I was going to love him!

His performance just draws you in and I can't take my eyes off him, he is the Doctor to me! (like David was.. )
I love his voice/accent as well

Since then I have watched him in Party Animals and he is great in that as well
