Amy's message

Not sure if it's been mentioned else where, but in 'The beast below' when Amy is in the voting booth, we see a recording of Amy pleading to get the Doctor off the ship.

When was this recorded?

Is it another Amy, or future Amy warning that the Doctor's actions might lead to consequences later in the series?

No it was recorded by Amy in the voting booth, there were three buttons, protest, record and forget.

The editing/writing/direction of the scene made it feel like the whole thing took a few seconds when it supposedly lasted 20 mins or so. So it appears she recorded it during those 20 mins.

If you have the patience to trawl through the episode thread it is discussed in length there.

It has been mentioned before, quite a lot in fact. There's no mystery-there was a button marked 'record' between the 'protest' and 'forget' buttons. She recorded the message as a warning to herself before pressing 'forget'. Otherwise, she'd have forgotten she'd already seen the video and just watched it again over and over again.

The problem with that is that it would require Amy to know what is to happen in the future and that having seen the video that she'd chose to forget.

She saw the video. She chose to forget what she'd seen. But before pressing 'forget', she recorded the message to herself as a warning to just get the Doctor off the ship before he discovered what she'd already seen. It makes perfect sense.

Anyone who recorded a message and wanted to forget presumably wouldn't leave themselves a message explaining what it was they were forgetting, just a reasurring message that everything was fine.

Anyone who didn't want to forget got eaten.
