Any idea who this guy is?

In this version of the Coming Soon Trailer (which has a few scenes I'd not seen in other versions) there is a guy dressed very very similar to the Doctor in what appears to be the TARDIS.

He can be seen at 1:18.

Are we getting some one impersonating the Doctor (possibly with his own Blue Peter designed TARDIS Console) or is it something else?

Never noticed that he was wearing the 11th's clothes before!

Intriguing. He looks evil though. Like Ian Hislop.

I noticed this man but I didn't think it was anything important. Never realised he was wearing Doc 11's clothes though

He's called Toby Jones, he's a fantastic actor- see him in 'Mo" with Julie Walters on See-Saw.com. I have always recognised him in this, but never twigged that he was in similar Doctor garb before!!

Of course, it may just be historical coincidence -lots of people used to wear jackets with Bow ties not so long ago, and this is a time travel premise after all.

On IMDB - he is credited as "actor" in Dr Who. I assume that's anti spoiler fare, but it could be his character's name - a Time Lord called 'The Actor'. Able to save the Universe as long as Equity rules and fees apply. When not battling alien hords he's just 'resting'. Spends ages watching the Doctor's exploits only to be heard muttering : "I could've done that better". Never gets involved with children or animals. Generally calls all his companions "Darling". First in the queue at the catering van. Always questioning his motivations. Doesn't want to be overshadowed by Captain Jack ( "Barrowmaaaaaannnnnnnn!!!!!" - shakes lisp)

I was thinking altversion of the Doctor but maybe he is just an actor portraying the Doctor on TV show.

Maybe Amy became a TV script writer after travelling with the Doctor and Toby Jones is the star of "The Raggedy Doctor".

He'd be a great Doc in real life too.

Maybe 'Amy's Choice' causes the Doctor to regenerate into that bloke? And she has to reverse it.

Or someone pretending to be the Doctor?

Wasn't there a competition on Blue Peter to design a console for one of the episodes?

I believe
Spoiler
He is the "Dream Lord" who is seemingly some form of the Doctor, be it him himself, or portraying the role in some way

This is from the Simon Nye episode, which is comedic, and this season's Doctor-Lite episode.

Toby Jones is a superb, superb actor. His roles as Swifty Lazar in Frost/Nixon, Truman Capote in Infamous, Karl Rove in W. and Thomas Huxley in Creation are all unique from each other and completely mesmerizing.
