Essentially the show hasnt really changed much over all 7 series, it's still the same format, all this talk about sexing it up and competing with X factor is really more the work of the media trying to drum up some headlines and sell newspapers. Yes they changed Arlene for Alesha last year and at no time did the BBC say that it was an attempt to bring in a younger audience, what they actually said was that Alesha was brought in a she had a unique perspective as a past winner. This change of course did not please some viewers, but if they had changed any of the judges for a past winner then the same debate would have followed.
The actual numbers who complained to the BBC were minimal in comparison to the viewers , but this was picked up by the press and magnified significantly , this of course gave the media the opportunity to bash SCD, ramp up the competition with X factor and of course sell more bloody newspapers....
What i guess i am saying is that if you ignore all the newspaper talk and just focus on the show, i think you will find that it hasnt really changed much at all from the show you have watched over the years...

dont believe the hype !!!
