Apologies if this has been raised before but I don't see it anywhere...

Is there any significance to the general idea of an alternate timezone/parallel universe theory for series 5 in that the ARP warden in ViotD had the letter 'R' on his tin hat ? I was under the impression that they only had 'W' or 'ARP' on their hats in WW2.. ?

Actually my son noticed this...they are currently studying WW2 in History and he said 'I thought they had W or ARP on their hats', but TBH I didn't think much of it.

I noticed it, but I can't say for sure that it was inaccurate. It didn't look right though, and it was very obvious.

I noticed that too. But given we all expect ARP (from Hodges in Dad's Army) I find it hard to believe its a mistake. Either wardens above Downing St did have 'R' only or its part of "The Arc"...

Another thing it could be is both the "A" and the "P" is missing. AP could be Amy Pond. A wild guess but could be a hint or could be nothing.

Sorry to pour cold water, but after a bit off digging, it turns out that 'R' denotes that the wearer was in charge of a Rescue party.

Shame the images in the links require a login, but there are some on Google:

Would explain why he's standing lookout on a roof in the middle of the Blitz.

I just presumed he was a ARP Warden as he shouted for the light to be turned out. and that was a job of the Air Raid Precaution warden-to check for lights left on/curtains not drawn.
A bit confuddled writing if thats the case.

Enough to posit the existence of a whole other reality?!

All these theories and little incosistencies are making my head spin!

Rather than start a new thread, here's another inconsistency.

When the Doctor was threatening the original Daleks with the Jammy Dodger, surely they would have realised it was a Jammy Dodger as they had been serving people tea, and therefore, presumably biscuits as well!

I think they only had Garibaldis though. So they may not have recognised the Jammy Dodger.

Jammie Dodgers were pretty new at that point - maybe the Doctor had his own?

(Tangential point - do we think the Doc has modified his stolen jacket to have Time Lord pockets yet?)

"Alright, it's a Jammie Dodger - but I was promised tea."

Add a "C" and you have "crap".

But as another clue to the alt-worldlieness of this season - there was an announcement that Stukas were attacking London

This never happened in our timeline

Ah! But it wasn't actually a Jammie Dodger... Jammie Dodgers have plain jam poking through the hole and the one the Doctor was holding has sugar over the Jam, it was plainly a Jam and Cream Biscuit! So you can't blame the Daleks for being hoodwinked

No, it was clearly an alternate-reality Jammie Dodger.

Serving an Italian biscuit during World War Two? How very unpatriotic!!!

Yeah, I noticed that, but put it down to a case of "print the legend".

Did they actually say that the Stukas were hitting London, or just that they were coming over? (I've no idea whether either were accurate). It was Heinkels that the Dalek shot down, right?

Unless Bermondsey has moved to Italy, Garibaldi's are most definitely a British biscuit:

Another obvious one :

When the Doctor "buggered off" leaving Amy and Winston behind to "bugger on", the Tardis effect caused a gentle breeze to waft gently through Amy's hair in an 80's-pop-video-pouty sort of way, yet Winstons cigar smoke was uneffected. Maybe Winston was a hologram ?

... Or maybe there's a different letter in every episode, and we have to find them put them all together and they all spell something. Bit like a treasure hunt but with no chocolate as the prize.

I'll start.

In TEH there was the funny shaped "Y" in myth, and in VOTD there was the "R". Anyone spot a vowel in the middle episode perchance?
