Pond fish problems

Have kept pond fish for a few years, all types, Koi, orfe, godlfish, shubunkins, sterlets etc, realtively few problems. It's quite a big pond, with about 50 fish.

Last year we couldn't get the water clear so put in a huge new filter which does the job and the water is crystal clear and looks better than ever.

However since February we've lost about 4 fish, it seems like fungus. The fish develop this white fluffy stuff around their middles and after a few days, are dead. I've treated the water with medi fin and anti fungus which I got from a local fish shop and the guy there said not to worry about it as "it happens" but yesterday when I found the 4th fish dead, I wondered if there is anything more I should do?

At the moment all the other fish seem healthy but it happens like that, one day they are fine, the next this fungusy stuff, and they never recover.

Is there something I should be doing or is it just one of those things? what causes it, and should i remove the fish when it gets fungusy?

Any advice appreciated

We need more information in order to help;

How large is the pond, exact dimensions & depth
What filter is it using (exact make & model)
What pump are you using (make, model)
Water test results (vital), Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate, pH
What UV system are you using (make & wattage)
What test kit are you using
How much water are you changing & how often
Have you started feeding the fish again after the Winter?
What are you feeding them

50 fish is a lot, Koi need massive ponds at least a meter in depth with filtration to match

Is the pond planted at all?

It is not uncommon for ponds to suffer somewhat after the Winter as the filtration is at an all time low & will not be able to cope with the ammonia the fish are producing which is why it's advisable to feed only lightly after the Winter & vital to remove all uneaten food asap.

The devil is in the detail

Hi

Water tests all came back ok, we took them to a local fish shop where they tested for nitrates, ammonia etc, all fine

The pond is 20 foot long, 10 foot wide and 5 foot deep.

There are some lillies and irises in the pond, have been in since we built it 7 years ago.

2 no Hozelock Titan 5500 pumps, running 2 waterfalls

Filter is a Yamitsu, we just got it last year, it's an above ground one (with lots of filter mats in it) with a 25w UV lamp in (change bulb end of March), got it from a specialist koi dealer, it was the biggest one they did and they advised it based on the pond size

We started feeding the fish about 2 weeks ago when it warmed up but have only fed them a few times, and not on cold days. We give them Nishi Koi mixed food and sinking pellets.

Hope this helps

Never change the water, we relined the pond a year ago and changed the water then, have never changed it since, topped it up last summer
