In the daily star it has been reported that a corrie insider has said that EastEnders only won so much at the awards because of its website, and that there were appeals on the site to vote for its characters....... Do you think this is true, or could it just be a case of jealousy on Corries behalf?

Personally I think that EastEnders won because it was just more popular and more people voted for it......Its not as if Corrie viewers didnt get the same opportunities to vote...... In my opinion Corrie are just finding any old excuse to blame for them not winning as many awards, as it has been no secret that everyone had tipped it to be corries year for winning, but unfortunately that was just the critics view, and not that of the general public....... xxx

Yep totally agree! They try to find an excuse but they can't face the facts. When I read in the paper about them all getting ready to collect the award before it was read out shows how stuck up themselves they really are, its pathetic. And when that woman said "We deserved the award, we're miles better than Eastenders," I couldn't help but laugh. They need an excuse and really are desperate, Corrie needs things to survive.

Why do Corrie need things to survive? Coronation Street and Eastenders are watched by more or less the same amount of viewers. They are hardly struggling to survive are they? Coronation Street won most of the awards last year and probably will again in the future and then it will probably swing back to Eastenders. So I really don't think that the people involved with Corrie will be having sleepless nights just because they didn't win best soap at these awards. The Baftas they aren't.

I'm so tired of this discussion, but one thing is true about that - Eastenders has a good website, Corrie does not. It doesn't even have a proper official one, which is utterly pathetic. If the Eastenders website WAS asking for people to vote (as it would have a right to), no one can deny this almost certainly helped. I imagine that site gets thousands of hits per day..

exactly, and if you look at the EE boards you can see that its all young Shannis/Kalfie lovers who would have all voted for it because they fancy Dennis!

Yeah, have to say I voted for EE because they have a brilliant website!! How stupid! Why can't they just accept they lost? If they were the best soap then they would of won, they didn't so clearly they ain't.

That is one difference between the cast of EastEnders and the other pathetic bunch. When EE were on the losing end last year they got on with it. No whining, no complaining and certainly no excuses. Shame the other bunch can't be like that. Their behaviour is attrocious and childish.

Its so obviou to anyone with half a brain that the result is a fix. EE went from a first class soap to one that isnt even fit for Cable. THe whole result was a complete travesty obviously engineered by the PC trendies and luvvies who concoct the KEEK that EE has become. In other words its a crock of SHI*e

Somewhat missing the point I think? No one said they voted for it BECAUSE they have a brilliant website, but because a)they were asking for people to vote (which is perfectly fine) and b)Corrie doesn't have a proper site at ALL, so it can't do that. So it loses out on both counts.
The EE website doubtless gets many a visitor every day, so plenty of them will put their votes in. Corrie has nothing like this and I have absolutely no idea why.

Why the hell did ITV have to go and change it from www.coronationstreet.co.uk to www.itv.com/coronationstreet They did this with Emmerdale too. Oh and whats all this about a new perfect website Corrie are making?

I'm just finding it all laughable the excuses corrie and their fans have come up with for why they lost. And the whole 'well, EE has a good website where as corrie don't' excuse is the most ridiculous excuse ever. Corrie lost, time to get over it. And if I was a fan of that show, not that there is enough money on this planet that would make me do that, I would be ashmed of how the cast behaved. You'd NEVER have the EastEnders cast behaving like that.

But it isn't though. Read what's being said. I'm not repeating myself, just to say that Corrie didn't have that advantage because it doesn't have a site! The EE site is fabulous and has all sorts going on, and as such more visitors, plus appealing for votes - Corrie's is part of ITV's site and contains just about NOTHING.
I'm not going to use it as an excuse as to why they lost and frankly I'm bored of this whole thing now as much as anyone, but there's no doubting it helped EE big time.

As for how the cast reacted - I find it more amusing than anything. Never assume things like that really, but I do feel sorry for them.

Doubt it'll be perfect, but something half-decent at least I hope. We need character profiles, screencaps, quizes, stuff like that. That they haven't got their own one is pathetic...

Probably because it's all going under the new ITV plc brand. Everything is grouped together.

It's a lame excuse, but the websites for Corrie and Emmerdale are terrible (and the third party ones are no better; the best Corrie site groups the cast by surname instead of first name!)

Although actually four times out of five Corrie pulls in a bigger audience at the moment.

Precisely. It was a popularity vote and given that Corrie has higher ratings now Corrie should have won. The website thing (Fair enough for EE to promote themselves) makes sense.

As for being disgusted by the Corrie casts behaviour. I dont think so. Not while there are Elaine Lordans, Jessie Wallaces and Leslie Granthams on EE.

I think the Bafta situation also got EE fans out in numbers, whereas the Corrie fans were a bit blasee.

Award or not Corrie is at present the Best Soap and the most popular, and EE know it all too well

Eastenders weren't very pleased and they whined and complained just as much when they weren't nominated for a Bafta award. To suggest that the people at Corrie are the only ones capable of this sort of behaviour is just plain laughable. And, what do you mean by their fans? You always talk as if you think it's impossible for people to enjoy watching both shows. Not everyone is as blindly attached to one show with an irrational hatred for the other, as you seem to be. You'll find that most of the people who are complaining about Eastenders storylines are people, like myself, who have watched both shows for years and now feel that Eastenders has lost it's way a lot and that Corrie has been far better over the past year. If it was the other way around I wouldn't hesitate to complain about Corrie. I pay just as much money as what you do for my tv licence and that means I have the right to complain if I don't like my money being spent on a tv show that is now employing some duff actors and some rubbish scriptwriters. If you don't mind, then fine, but don't expect others not to complain especially if they think that Eastenders has just won an award that they feel they didn't really deserve. Having been voted the best soap doesn't necessarily mean that it is.

Is Corrie a religion to you or something?? Or is Tony Warren a relative of yours? I'm sure there are members of the Muhajdeen less fanatical in their views than you!

Sorry if that offends - I don't slavishly agree that everything about EE and its cast is perfect (far from it, as you've illustrated!), but I don't get why some people are unable to give ANY credit where it's due. EE has raised the bar for soap writing, acting and production over the years - and fair play to Corrie for rising to the challenge and beating them at their own game in the past 18 months. But that doesn't mean that everything about Corrie is the dog's bollocks and everything about EE is shite.

Eastenders wins most of the 'public vote' awards and that is why some commentators were surprised when Suranne Jones won Best Actress at the Soap Awards.

It's true that the Corrie actors were so confident that they would win best soap that it did seem that they were rather bitter about missing out on the award. Whereas the Eastenders crew were optimistic and took the BAFTA omission with great dignity when they could have felt it incredible that they didn't get a nomination.

Eastenders won because they have the biggest following and the greater amount of viewers as proved every week in the viewing figures. Well done to them after all the bashing they have had recently by the 'critics'.
Safra

Thats not true. Viewing figures are usually/use to be quite close, but it is Corrie which usually has the highest ratings!

Personally, I think the fact EastEnders win the viewers votes is down the What's On TV magazine.

What's On TV is EastEnders biased. I'm not slagging EastEnders off because I love it just as much as any soap, but this magazine constantly features EastEnders characters on it's cover, and gives them the most page space, even when other soaps have bigger or more shocking stories.

For example, this week Ian finds out Bobby is his son - yeah fair enough, but I find Andy Sugden shooting Jack in Emmerdale a bigger story and deserves to be the main cover feature. What I'm getting at is that What's On TV readers are obviously EastEnders viewers, because if you weren't an EastEnders viewer, you wouldn't usually buy such an EastEnders favoured magazine.

So therefore, EastEnders have an advantage over the other soaps, because of the coverage What's On TV gives it. In terms of websites, EastEnders will always have the best one, though Corrie and Emmerdale used to have decent ones too. It's a shame they closed down.
