They'll schedule Murray second on centre court and be praying he hasn't started by 5pm (depends how long the first match lasts). If he does start before I think they'll stick with Holland v Brazil.

If the match lasts a long time, I don't think they'll be as bothered if Uruguay v Ghana is bumped to Sports Extra - although Sports Extra is scheduled to cover Rugby League on Friday Night.

If it's 3-0 with 10 mins to go then they migth switch to the tennis I suppose

Friday 2nd July - talkSPORT

Adrian Durham presenting World Cup Matchday Live from Johannesburg with Alvin Martin in London (1-5pm)

FIFA 2010 World Cup Quarter Final
Netherlands v Brazil - Ian Danter and Ray Parlour (commentary)

Mark Saggers presenting World Cup Matchday Live with Stan Collymore at Soccer City Stadium, Johannesburg (7-11pm)

FIFA 2010 World Cup Quarter Final
Uruguay v Ghana - Jim Proudfoot and Stan Collymore (commentary)

So yet another commentary team change to talkSPORT's provisional schedule. Geography and logistics suggest that Dants and Parlour should do Argentina-Germany tomorrow with Jim and Stan staying in Johannesburg for Paraguay-Spain, but you never know.

Between 5-7pm today (barring extra-time), World Cup Drivetime will be hosted by Adrian Durham with Darren Gough, Jamie Carragher and Harry Redknapp.

I think this was the only option for Five Live really, as I can only imagine the mounds of complaints coming in particularly from north of the border had they not done commentary on Andy Murray's semi-final.

They were also in a position to say that football fans wanting to listen to the game on analogue radio had another national radio option in talkSPORT, whereas Five Live were the only widely-available station with commentary rights to the tennis.

I wonder what Five Live would have done in these circumstances had they been holding exclusive UK radio commentary rights to the tournament, as was the case during Euro 2008? I suspect they would have come to the same decision.

With Netherlands v Brazil being the last game of the World Cup to have taken place during normal 9 until 5 working weekday hours, I wonder how well talkSPORT will have done from being in the position of being the only analogue radio station to be able to carry commentary on it in full? I expect they will have attracted a far bigger audience than usual during the second half, particularly as both the quarter final and the Murray match progressed.

It's a shame listening figures for individual programmes are only divulged to the radio stations themselves, as I'd be interested to know which of the following matches commanded talkSPORT their biggest audience - England v Slovenia or Netherlands v Brazil.

Saggers is fronting the show from Ellis Park tonight and was at Soccer City last night, while Durham was/is studio-based for both of his quarter finals.

Ian Abrahams is still out in Johannesburg, he was interviewing Dutch fans in the South African capital yesterday and has been in the Dutch team HQ today.

Mark Chapman will be out in SA until the very end, his show on Mon 12th comes from J'burg. He'll then be presenting sport every Monday evening from the looks of it.

I'd imagine that was Darren Fletcher's last WC game (he's not doing any game after today but he could pop up today I suppose). I'd expect Mike Ingham to be somewhere today.

Fantastic commentary by Jim Proudfoot today, one of the best of the tournament.

Really enjoyed listening to someone who I regularly hear commentating on the Bundesliga speaking about the German national team with real authority. I can't imagine either of this afternoon's BBC commentary teams would have been able to offer much in the way of that!

Kudos also goes to Stan Collymore. He was great today and has improved so much since he joined talkSPORT two years ago. He made some really astute observations about both sides and I feel he's now a very worthy successor to Alvin Martin.

The World Cup rivalry between Radio 5 Live and talkSPORT has boiled over with the commercial station's top pundit, Stan Collymore, wanting to settle a few scores with notorious BBC commentator Alan Green.

Collymore and his colleagues are irate about the way the highly provocative Green, who regularly falls out with colleagues and competitors alike, has repeatedly mentioned on air that BBC listeners should 'beware cheap imitations'.

Former Liverpool striker Collymore, who has a volatile streak himself, is leading the talkSPORT charge against Green and was looking for him in the Green Point Stadium media centre in Cape Town before the Argentina v Germany game.

Collymore said: 'There are a number of us who are very upset about what Green's been saying about the station. It's disrespectful to a team who have been working extremely hard during the tournament. When I catch up with him, he'll find out exactly what I think about him.'

Is that from Charles Sale? It's been hinted that we shouldn't always believe what's in his column. If what Green has said is true then it is disrespectful.

Sale clearly doesn't like Green and it might be another anti-BBC story from the Mail.

Charlie Sale may not like Alan Green (how many people in the media do?) but what he has written is true.

According to irishmikee in the equivalent thread to this one in the Broadcasting section, he made this remark during the England v Germany game. It wouldn't surprise me if he's made it a few times during other games as well. You and Stan are right, it's totally disrespectful and shows Green up for what he is.

Alan Green is a nasty piece of work and deserves all the bad publicity he gets. I hope Stan gets the chance to give him a piece of his mind (within reason!).

The reason why Ian Danter and Ray Parlour covered Netherlands v Brazil and Jim Proudfoot and Stan Collymore did Uruguay v Ghana on Friday, contrary to talkSPORT's original schedule, from Ian's blog:

Quote:
“Ray & I were dispatched to Port Elizabeth first thing Friday morning to cover Holland Brazil in a slight change of plan - we were due to do both Jo'burg games, but as Stan & Jim couldn't get flights from P.E. to Cape Town, it was easier for us to fly in and out on the same day and for Stan & Jim to do the same in Cape Town today for Germany's annihilation of Argentina...at least we scored against the Germans. Twice.

There's been a fair few issues with getting fligths from what I've heard, BBC personnel have just made the car journeys where they can. (Hiring a car and a driver can cost more than a flight so the Daily Mail should calm down!).

Green is one of those characters where some of the stuff said about him isn't always true or taken out of context. Sadly, not on this occassion from what I can tell. The stuff about him and Graham Taylor falling out was largely made up.

I've heard a fair bit of Greenie's work this World Cup, he is a supreme whinger I agree (aided & abetted by the ex sausage making dinosaur) but brilliant at the art of commentating. He's not the only one to have a cheap pop at your favourite station though, I even heard Amy Lawrence joining in with some snide remarks on a Beeb podcast recently, on there they never actually utter the word 'talkSPORT' surprise surprise.

Do you happen to know how much work Collymore has done for the BBC in the past? Thanks.

He actually worked for 5Live for 2-3 years, with Green on occassions! He left after the "dogging" claims (allegedly).

I like Green as a commentator and on 606, his Ivory Coast/Portugal commentary with Savage was great and livened up a dreadful game. He goes too far at times but I'd rather that than some of the blandness that BBC and ITV put out but I won't defend him on this particular incident.

That may be so, but I find it very difficult to sympathise with him even when he does get a somewhat unfair crack of the whip. It comes with the territory. Someone who continually stirs up trouble and makes unnecessary unpleasant and unwarranted remarks about others in his profession is always going to attract their fair share of flack.

I never thought much of him before his particularly sorry business with Mark Saggers last year, but if that story which was reported by Sale, the Guardian and others is true (which I have no reason to disbelieve), then I have no time for him whatsoever.

I despise bullies who throw their weight around to the detriment of others and that's exactly what Green is by all accounts. Why anyone could enjoy listening to that shock jock of a commentator is beyond me. (I'll get off my soapbox now.).

This would be the same Amy Lawrence who was dropped by talkSPORT after being less than successful as a co-host on the quickly-canned Three Day Weekend show with Dom McGuinness back in 2001? Just thought I'd throw that out there.

I think his initial spell with Five Live is as Col says, he had two or three seasons with them after his playing retirement in the early 2000s, before being dropped during which time he dabbled in films, music and reality TV.

He then rejoined Five Live (and also presented a regional Soccer Night show on ITV Central round here) in the 2007/08 season where his star rose quickly - he was their co-commentator on the Champions League Final between Manchester United and Chelsea in Moscow and was planned to be part of their Euro 2008 coverage as a summariser.

He then made the decision to join talkSPORT in the summer of 2008, soon after his former Five Live boss Moz Dee arrived there, and even missed out on covering Euro 2008 for the BBC to do so.

I think a big motive for his moving stations, money aside, was that talkSPORT could offer him more games to cover on a continuous basis.

These days he typically attends three or four games per week for talkSPORT (Saturdays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and some Mondays) and I've heard him say on-air a few times that he loves being able to cover so many football matches each week.

Thanks to you both for filling me in.

I'd love to witness a tweet-off between the two of them. Pity the imbecilic Robbie Savage tweets, not Greenie.

Edit - straight up, I've just this sec seen Stan's latest tweet:

Keep it talkSPORT for more LIVE sport than you can shake a stick at over the next 3 seasons.Beware cheap imitations!!
