I want to buy a 1 tb hard disk for the Humax - the problem is I cannot find the name of the one I had before. Could some kind soul point me to a suitable caviar green? drive that would be suitable for pvrs on Amazon UK. I have looked but can't seem to find the one that I had before. I think it had AV somewhere in the title?

The Western Digital model that everyone seemed to be installing last year was the WD10 EVCS SATA 1TB Caviar Green AV-GP (the GP apparently stands for Green Power). It seems to have been discontinued. Western Digital are currently recommending the WD10 EVDS SATA 1TB AV-GP for PVRs/DVRs - Amazon have it here:

These are the specs:

I haven't done an upgrade myself - maybe others have alternative suggestions/recommendations.

I have a 1TB version of this drive in my Humax, it is dead quiet, it is specifically made for PVR's and is also low power. I understand that if you go for a larger size than 1TB, the Humax cannot format it and you have to use a PC booted with linux to do the initial format. I fitted the The 1TB drive in the Humax in no time at all and it has been running in my PVR for about 3 months with no problems what so ever.

If you swap hard disks, is there any way of copying what's on the old one to the new one?

Yes stick it in a sata caddy and connect it to one of the usb ports. You don't need to copy them though you can play them back using USB

Thanks, Graham. Still not sure I'm going to do this - is it worth 72 quid?

Perhaps I should just get a bit more disciplined! [90% of 320Gb used].

Alternatively you could buy a 1TB drive, format it EXT3 connect it to the USB port. You can then transfer all SD and virtually all BBC-HD to this and watch from their. It will take a while (about 15-20 min for 1hr of BBC-HD but you can select a whole series and leave the box to get on with it.

And of course if Humax added USB 3 capability to the new model that would increase the transfer rate by 10 fold!
GT - something to add to your wish list for the new model - http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/s....php?t=1251927

Prefer the external esata port option though (compatible with existing tackle)
