Good news that FOX aren't making it, but if anyone has to then I hope it is Showtime as they could do it justice.

I'm not surprised. Fox already have the similar genre show "Fringe" -why would they
need Torchwood ?

i never believed that they were going to do a remake in the first place!!!

I don't get why the US don't just get the UK versions? I mean, we don't have to redesign CSI!

I think a Torchwood France would be great, though it just wouldn't work in the end. The team would spend all their time having sex and smoking and looking into the distance to show how deep they are, and so the aliens would win during the first episode (mind you, the UK lot did those things a lot too and they still won most of the time).

It would look great though, and there would be lots of boobies and male wiggly bits on display.

The BBC itself is the driving force behind the US version. The BBC is determined that the majority of BBC Worldwide's profits should made from outside the UK and these US programme tie-ups are one of the ways of achieving that aim.

I have never thought this had anything to do with the people, I think it has to due with the studios themselves. I mean - they changed the title of the first Harry potter movie because they thought us American's were to stupid to understand.

when I was living over in the UK, the thing that drove me crazy the most was American made commericals being dubbed so the voices were British. I never understood why either contury has to change anything...

Wasn't Kingdom cancelled late last year? (Remember reading about it on Stephen Fry's site and twitter) and haven't seen the latter.

Some of my favourite shows of the past few years have been ITV productions, they just haven't broadcast any of them (The Street, BBC One. Coach Trip, Channel 4)

The do the same with some preschool TV cartoons. Drives me mental. especially since they seem to use the same voice actors over and over again

I mean come on we speak the same language FFS

But wouldn't that cause problems for Auntie? I can't
see how making a program with a commerical
channel like Fox fits even the most generous
interpretation of a "Public service remit".

I'll second you Millard. With FOX's history of Science Fiction shows I'd rather have no show than a FOX show.

I gve up on Ladies of letters before the end of the first series. There was some quite old-fashioned stereotyping creeping in, which was beginning to swamp the story (camp gay son; illiterate black lesbian prisoner) and which I found a bit offensive. The radio series didn't have that.

A shame, because it started out to be very funny. Dragged terribly by the time i gave up,a nd was full of quite objectionable ideas and characters.

Or the other awful US version called "Amanda's", with Bea Arthur in the Basil Fawlty role?
