I mean the ads with Ant & Dec.
Are ITV advertising this because of Freeview HD or will more shows be added to the exsisting service on Freesat?

Mostly, because it's now much more widely available; it's on all the UK digital platforms, whereas before it was, nominally at least, a Freesat exclusive

It's simply because they have an ITV HD channel now, previously there wasn't a channel. It's a simulcast of ITV SD, so is almost entirely upscaled, but it will grow, just as CH4 HD is.

Freesat HD boxes should have updated automatically. Check for channel 119

6 months ago the Part-Time ITV HD bit rate was quoted in forums as over 10.5 mbps ie better than the then BBC HD..
Now that ITV HD is with us .. As an old Cynic,, could i ask..
Why have i not heard that one is better than the other?
For that matter anyone know the current rates for both please?

They are both about the same, ITV 1 HD video is a bit higher than the BBC but the audio bitrate is lower so in total they are very similar

Actually ITV1 HD is slightly more per channel, so in a way it is better.

Basically they are so similar it's got to be down to encoder performance. Itv has a little more bitrate for video but less for audio which is what I posted

ITV1 HD and BBC HD are equal for stereo with 192kbps AC3, but BBC only uses 384kbps for 5.1, so in theory you are getting less bits, 76.8 vs 96kbps per channel with stereo (or less if you count the .1 as a channel).

I know that, I did not say the audio was better on the beeb but simply that the overall bitrate is slightly higher on BBC-HD which it is, and that the video bitrate is slightly higher on ITV-HD which it is (about 5%). Never claimed one was better than the other simply stated the facts.

In practice the source material has much more effect on picture quality there's good and bad HD pictures on both channels.
