I don't think it was meant that way at all **puts on her intelligent glasses**. I think the word prat refers to the swedish word smed, which is translated into Blacksmith or Smith. As such, it's just a different spelling for Matt's surname. Problem solved.

Okay I laughed at the dalek being lego bunch of crap , slightly is but nto too bad seen worse but its just as moral as it has been probbaly more punchy but the dr is just as caring and senstive but doesnt do as much self pity which slightly annoyed me , I got "hamlet" on dvd and got a headache fromt hat dont need a headache from dw , though loved dt's acting and portrayal , his sadness from series 3 to t he specials with breaks was tedious at times , okay he lost rose 2 times and donna cant remember him and Martha left him for a proper dr (dont think he was that bothered) then mickey (poor plot line that) the soap part of it as you called it , that was ok for character developement but it got tedious when Jackie was in every thing and then Martha's family got kidnapped by the master and Donna's family tried to kill a dalek and then nearly all of his assiatants and a clone got the earth home (sweet bit that actually) I thought russell bless was a good writer initally but he had to tie up everything didnt he and over do the dr's demise (the tenth ) though I think the dr doesnt really die axremeber "Time crash"

Summed up nicely. Dr Who is now suitable for people who's brain hurts if they try watching Hamlet.

As I said, it's now a children's show with nothing too taxing emotionally. A baddie, A goody, Goody wins in time to have tea and biscuits with granny.

Totally agree with you. Alot of those critics are just doing it to bait fans and wind everyone up. It's a quick and easy story and a bit of bandwagon jumping. So far so good, after the 2 parter will know for sure. Can't wait!

Generally, the show feels poised on a balance between heading for greatness (finding its own identity) and treading water. I feel it could go either way but for the first time in a long time, am optimistic.”

Likewise-though I think I probably enjoyed the scripts so far more than you did.

After the last few years, this is a totally new experience for me. It's rather disconcerting. Thank goodness the recession and the election are giving me something to complain about.

You are so obviously a hardcore fan of RTD's era who is looking at series 5 through a very biased pair of eyes. Be more open-minded and watch the whole series before you write it off as a failure.

You also need to stop acting as though David Tennant is some kind of world-class actor, because he really isn't. He's decent, but there are much better actors currently working in television at the moment.

So far, I have liked each episode less than the previous one, but it's early days and I'm still enjoying it. I like the new Doctor, and think that considering we've only seen 3 episodes so far, he's doing really well. As an aside, I teach, and most of my year 7's (11/12 yr olds) absolutely love Dr Who, but they all (and I mean all) think that DT was much better, and just can't warm to the new Doctor.

It seems that if you don't rate Matt Smith then:

1. You are not a fan
2. You are only saying things to bait people as you obviously can't not like Matt Smith
3. You are a troll
4. You worship DT and want to sleep with RTD.

Well I've been a fan since Pertwee so I think I count. I have watched the show grow and now obtain record numbers of viewers BECAUSE it stop being a kiddies show and became a truly great top notch drama that even non-Who fans enjoyed totally.

Dr Who needed to evolve from what it was before the 14 year gap as that was why there was a 14 year gap!

Now that it has decided to go back to being a kids show, it will lose vast numbers of viewers over the coming run and all the so-called fans left can cheer that they got their way during the next 14 years that they don't make it any more.

So well done all who wanted it like this, you have set Dr Who back years and killed the show. Well done!

Hey, no problem! It was sixteen years, by the way. Or nine, depending on your point of view.

Strangely, so far the viewers don't seem to be going anywhere...

Have you ever considered a career as a reviewer? Perhaps for the Telegraph? With such a flair for witty prose, you're wasting yourself.

You definitely sound like a troll to me, the way you're acting as if your opinions of the new show mirror the opinions of the rest of Doctor Who's current viewership. They certainly don't.

If you ask me, most of the scripts that RTD coughed up over the last few years were extremely childish and idiotic. If anything the show has become more mature.

Think Matt and Karen are great. The Eleventh Hour was a strong opener.

But...

The last two episodes have been pretty "meh". Have every confidence in the Moff though and am not going anywhere!

I am very happy with the new series, there is room for improvement, but that generally is the case with most series at this sort of stage: the majority of the classic nu who episodes have been in the second half of the series after all. Well at least thats my view.

But yes, it's been a good start for me. I am especially impressed with the ease with which MS has taken to the role, like a duck to water. Brilliant.

Why the constant need to stereotype anyone who dares to dislike this series as hardcore RTD/DT fans????
