What do you think of the new Doctor Who series so far?

It's the constant DT vs MS bit I can't stand. I'm quite happy that people make any criticisms of MS or DT for that matter as long as it doesn't go down the route of who's the best Doctor. It gets a bit boring that's all.

The Eleventh Hour was brilliant and managed to successfully continue the show without doing it too much 'damage' (the theme tune, opening sequence, individual performances and the plotline have all been criticised by select people, but I see no problem with any of these really). It wasn't too taxing on the brain, which is good for an opener and had an air of freshness about it that the series 2, 3 and 4 openers failed to bring. I have watched this episode once and say for now that it is the best of the three episodes so far.

The Beast Below was a good monster-of-the-week episode that didn't really take the main characters anywhere, although the 'angry doctor' was shown to Amy. Of course, the episode ties in nicely with the UK election, but did feel like it was trying to cram in way too much. Still, it was the first episode since Midnight in 2008 that had just 45 minutes to tell its story. That said, it did an okay job and had a good supporting cast. After watching twice, I still rank it the least favourite of the three episodes so far but it surpasses the worst of Doctor Who by miles. I also found I enjoyed it more on second watch- something I have found with all Moffat episodes except Blink.

Victory of the Daleks had a lot to do in its 45 minute running time- more so, I feel, than the previous episode. Nonetheless, after a second watch, I feel that it was an okay episode, and that it was miles better after a second viewing. I think that people are either too harsh or too kind on it, as ViOTD falls nicely in the middle of dalek episodes we have had since 2005- not as good as the likes of Dalek or The Parting of the Ways, but not as bad as Daleks in Manhattan and Journey's End. The pacing was a little off, but I feel the right decision was made to have the daleks vanish relatively early on (I think it was around the 30 minute mark). We have had too many dalek stories in recent years, and it seems wise to limit them here, even if it was an episode about them. Finally, I am on the fence over the new dalek design. The white and blue work quite well, and possibly the yellow one, but having them all an assortment of colours seemed way too gimmicky. That said, I feel they are more accepted that it seems- there are a lot of people on this forum complaining about them, but a lot more people who are not on this forum have simply accepted the new design. I love the white dalek, and its deep voice too.

So, all in all, am so far loving the new series. Admittedly, the first episode remains the best, but it did have 60 minutes to tell its story, and the dalek episode did have a lot of continuity to deal with. I have a good feeling about the rest of the series, particularly the Weeping Angels story we have coming up. Cannot wait.

Why, oh why can't you make a comment without having a dig at other fans of the show. Your the one being constantly childish and thinking your opinion is above everyone else. Put a sock in it.

If you're using the term 'nerd' as an insult then i think you've sorely misjudged who you're throwing said insult at.

I'm proud to be a nerd.

And why so angry? It's friday! Back in the days when i finished school on a friday and the sun was blazing I was out playing with my friends! Are you grounded or something poor soul!

Very disappointed with the new series, the best episode for me so far was the ViOTD.

Matt Smith is finding his feet quickly (although the Ha-haa catchphrase is a little bit irritating).

Karen Gillan hasn't had much to do. Don't rate the character much, but then again, she hasn't done much so far.

The writing hasn't been up to scratch - Moffat set his standard extremely high, but IMO the stories don't seem as enticing as most of the last 4 series. The Beast Below goes and joins Fear Her with the episodes I won't be watching again (I have tried).

I liked the Daleks, and the new Daleks, but trying to convince a walking bomb to difuse itself by thinking it was human was ludicrous. And Amy's character asking him if he ever loved someone he shouldn't was completely out of the blue.

I'm hoping for better with the Weeping Angels and River. My fingers are crossed.

Which aspect does particularly remind you of dog's poo, and which dog are we talking about (there is a big difference between poodle and alsation dog poo). Maybe if you talk about a load, you mean lots of different poo from different species. I assume you have carried out an extensive survey on the matter. You must share your fascinating findings with us at some point.

Careful Lach, you're over analyzing the subject matter-that could leave you open to charges of being a 'nerd', apparently...

No a Troll is not someone who post something you disagree with.

If you think that, boy are you going to meet a lot of trolls.

Why don't you put a sock in it, I have never said my opinions were more valid than anybody elses, what the hell is your problem?

Surely that should read worship RTD and want to sleep with DT?

Loved the first and third episodes, not so keen on the second but I see lots of potential ahead for The Doctor and Amy and I can't wait to see how this series pans out!

Holding up the torch of a nerd quite proudly. You see I don't mind people stating their opinion, but hey have to explain every single detail of it and analyse it for me. I'm still waiting for Costas69's answer.

Mixed bag so far. I enjoyed the first episode, loved the second episode, but was very disappointed with the third.

3 out of 3 for me so far.

I still dislike the TARDIS interior and the New theme, but that is my issue.

I've been a little underwhelmed with the new series so far. But I'm happy the viewing figures are staying extremely healthy and that the majority are enjoying it as Doctor Who is still a brilliant programme, even when I don't enjoy episodes as much as I thought I would.

I loved Eleventh Hour and I think Matt Smith is fantastic as the Doctor and a more than worthy successor to DT. I'm not really warming to Amy yet though, little Amelia yes, but not grown up Amy. I was rewatching series 1 of New Who today and remembering how much I liked seeing the Doctor and the whole series through Rose's eyes. I could certainly relate to her more, I think because I really felt the fear and wonder along with her and I haven't really felt that with Amy yet, but I hope I will. I also (and this is just my personal opinion and I'm not suggesting anyone else shares it!) don't always like Steven Moffatt or his vision for the show - based on past comments he's made etc, I don't know. I really liked the heart that RTD brought to it, even though I know many disliked the 'soap' elements. But for me, they really anchored DW in a world I recognised and the emotion felt very real to me.

Not really, more of a coffee person: some eloquence, intelligence, deference and conference wouldn't go amiss though but from what I'm reading here this year...there are huge reasons why this country requires such an influx of of skilled workers from elsewhere given that those people that are here cannot even create a sentence, let alone a cogent argument...

Heheh

(Lets hope they've not got similar plans for K-9 at some point )

And before I'd finished posting, everything I asked for appeared - spooky but wonderful (don't agree with it all, obviously, but wonderful nonetheless )

It would have been TOO spooky if you had! Plus, I don't think many people would, it's why I don't mention a lot of my Who opinions too often. That, and the fact that I am more than willing to love series 5 as much as past ones. I already enjoy it a lot - I just need that push (I hope) and I will be out buying all the spin off novels again.
