How Come Stephanie's The Only One To Get New Songs
jill1812

Every other girl has had to do a song already used on another of these shows. Some have already had two (Steph, Dani, Jenny and Jessica). Why is Stephanie getting new songs?

Isn't Danielle on all new songs too (Could it be Magic was done in Joseph....)

So she's not on all new songs, since as you say "Could It Be Magic" was used in Joseph...

Yeah but I think the OP was talking about all of the shows. Stephanie hasn't got a song that's been used at all. Yet! She still could.

Who cares the songs they have had haven't been great anyway.

The Maria's got the best songs. I loved that show. This one isn't so great.

Get rid of the scary makeup. and fashion disastors. I can't concentrate on the performences becuase I'm laughing at the clothes. Stephanie's pokadot yellow dress, scared the hell out of me.

I don't think it really means anything. Notably during I'd Do Anything, Samantha and Rachel got the most re-dos of songs that had been done before, and they were both fairly popular with the judges, so I don't think it's intended to hamper people. Equally Jessie, who was also somewhat a judges favourite, didn't get any to re-do so I don't think it's seen as a handicap either.

Most of these performances are years ago anyway. So long as it's not a song that's VERY closely associated with a particular past contestant (ie if someone came out and did Send In The Clowns, or Paint It, Black) I doubt it's something that ever crosses the casual viewers mind.

Your blog is awsome . I was laughing so hard at Lizzy from playdays. I used to laugh at it when I was a kid, thanks for reminding me.

It was more a wondering than thinking it was favouritism . As much as Stephanie's had new songs she hasn't had a decent one yet.

The question might be is there any significance to certain people geting certain songs that have done well before or were given to people he judges thought were good.

On the other side if someone gets bojangles or summertime again, that may well mean ALW wants them out.......

Just becuase you favour that Jessica, you think she could have done better with a new song. Forget it . I don't see why you are complaining anyway. They don't favour Danielle and Stephanie, you are just seeing it that way, becuase that's what you want to see. Their songs were no better or worse than anyone elses. If they are getting praised then that's becuase the panel thinks they are good. They are giving them the songs they think will suite them best. I want to see them all do some new ones, becuase I am sick and tired of the old ones. Becuase I don't like comparing them to the other shows.

I agree about Bojangles, but Summertime is a great song. Fantasia smashed it on American Idol (I know this isn't AI but that's a great, classic song and I think it could work on a show like this). Abi just didn't do so well with it, so she got bad comments. I highly doubt that song was sabotage. She didn't even get voted out that week.

My favourite isn't Jessica, although she is one I'm voting for. It's happened to girls I like and girls I'm not keen on.

I see. That's very compelling.

Why not try looking at the fact that most have been given quite good songs and done nothing with them, cough, Jessica. And where as Stephanie, even though I don't actualy like her that much has been given a quite unknown, and silly songs apart from Smile, and managed to pull them off. I don't see what your reasoning is at all. It's only the third week.

I was downloading the mp3s for all the performanes yesterday, and because I'm a complete geek I change all the titles and organise them before i transfer them to iTunes. I noticed only Stephanie had all new songs and I wondered why.

Is it she's the favourite so they're giving her the best songs. Or are they doing a Rachel Tucker on her, giving the impression she's the favourite to deflect negative attention from the actual favourite.

Redoing songs can be a positive or a negative, after Jenny did 'Songbird' one of my first thoughts was - see Siobhan that's how it should be done, after Dani did 'One Night Only' I though not as good as Jessie.

^Again the difference of opinion amazes me. When Jenny sang "Songbird", I wanted to go watch Siobhan's version again because Jenny, while she sounded pretty, didn't have nearly the amount of passion or commitment in her performance as Siobhan did. I'll give Jenny props for actually standing up while Siobhan just sat there, but even though she was seated on a stool and just singing, I'll give that one to Siobhan every time.

Siobhan's was much better imo too.

I think there are two types of crap song choice. The first where someone is given a song they can't do well but in the hands of someone else maybe a decent choice, Summertime, Cryin and Fighter are all good examples of this. There are other which are crap no matter who gets them, Mr Bojangles, All About You and Suddenly I see spring to mind.

I think Crying is a hard one for any contestant. It was well known that Roy Orbison had an unusually wide vocal range and crying reflects this.

Jill did you mean that Siobhan's was better, or that Jenny's was?

I thought Siobhan's was infinitely better myself.

I wasn't a fan during Maria. I thought Siobhan was gorgeous and had a beautiful voice, but didn't have much else to offer. I never thought anything would make me rate her acting ability, but when I saw Jenny do songbird I thought Siobhan conveyed the emotion of the song much, much better.

I much prefer Jenny's. To me Siobhan sang it like Eva Cassidy and I hate her version too. To me they both convey it as a sweet love song. Jenny was very similar to the original, I didn't think anyone could compare to Christine McVie but she did. Jenny gave it a bittersweet tone which to me is what the song is about.

I always took the song to be about a break up, given it was written by Christine McVie and it's on Rumours.

Jamie Archer did a great version on the X-Factor. Ben was given it because he'd escape the sing off three weeks on the trot, and ALW wanted him back in it and Lewis out of it.
