Quite a few of the big pub chains now have 3D tvs showing football matches. I watched a game in my local yates last weekend and was impressed with the effect.

Go to John Lewis. They now sell them and will do demo's. Read about this guy who dropped a couple of grand on the first 3D HDTV in the UK.

First 3D television sets go on sale in UK

I was going to say only in Oxford Street and at Peter Jones Sloane Square, but since you live in London - that's cool.

Harrods do the Sony model.

Also Sky do demos of the passive system (in my opinion better, due to lack of ghosting or flicker) at the O2 in Greenwich and they were doing it WestField in White City.

The Sky3D channel is showing a demo loop at the moment. The channel will go full time later this year but any shops demoing 3D TV's will almost certainly be using this source.

The whole 3D concept does seem gimmicky to me. Our last family trip to the cinema was How to train your Dragon in 2D as we were a bit "meh" with trying the 3D version.

Avatar and UP! were awesome in 3D, but am I really that interested in watching more films or TV programmes in 3D? No not really. Avatar is merely average in 2D and UP! is awesome with or without 3D......so, really, what's the point?

However, and I'm rather annoyed with myself about this......the hype is working. The advertisers are slowly chipping away at my apathy. They are slowly telling me that 3D really is the future and that 3D really is as good as they say it is...and that the new Samsung 3DTV range is worth getting!!!

I know what'll happen. I'll start spending my lunchtimes looking at 3D panels....then I'll start asking for demos and before you know it, I've spent another £3,000 getting a piece of technology that I only think of as being a bit, well, "meh". Still, my little boy will LOVE it! (see there I go again, trying to justify the upgrade....I don't need it Mr. Advertiser, okay!)

I hate myself sometimes, I really do!!!

Saw the first 3D television demo in my local Currys here in Northern Ireland today. Not impressed, a lot of money for an experience in my viewing which would only be occasional..
Selling a starter pack inc 2 pairs active glasses and DVD of Monsters INC for around £150.. Television 40" Samsung connected to a Blu-Ray 3D player and you need an expensive HDMI 1.4 cable. Not much change from that lot out of £2500. No Thanks.

I doubt it - Currys make a HUGE profit selling you an expensive lead, that's why they push them.

On a £100 lead they will make £80 or more profit.

If they do, how much do you want to bet that they'll set them up to show the same slightly noisy, split-37-ways, standard resolution picture that the rest of their tellies are showing. Connected via the composite video connection. And in 2D, obviously.

With a bit of luck, some of the interference might be in 3D though

My boyfriend works at comet, and rang me yesterday to come down to the store to show me something "cool". They'd finally had the delivery of 3d glasses to go with a samsung tv (apparently they didn't send them all at the same time) Well long story short, i left having purchased the tv. Just couldn't help myself!

Yup we do.
The one we got upscales 2d to 3d, which i was abit dubious about to be honest but after watching it instore on a xbox360 game demo it was pretty impressive.
And we get Monsters vs. Aliens in 3d with the glasses bundle, so all else fails i'll watch that to death

Just to clear something up - according to the HDMI spec 3D tvs only need a 1.3 cable.1.4 cables add ethernet connection.
See here for details: http://www.hdmi.org/manufacturer/hdmi_1_4/index.aspx

I thought 1.4 is needed for the source to tell the TV it's 3d and automatically switch to the right format. Without it you have to do it manually

This is from the HDMI website:

How to Ensure 3D in your Home Theater System

•Look for devices that include 3D functionality.
•All High Speed HDMI cables will support 3D when connected to 3D devices. You can use your existing High Speed HDMI cables or choose a different cable type,

..which implies that any high speed HDMI cable will do. Where does it say that you need hdmi 1.4 for automatic 3d selection?
