My cat, who's about 2, normally eats twice a day. I feed her before I go to work in the morning and again when I get back after work. She also has dried food down all the time in case she wants to nibble.

At the weekends, I tend to give her little bits of chicken and treats but all in all she eats well and is overall healthy.

However, lately I've found that she's not eating as much.

Do you think its because the weather has turned warmer? She is out longer than normal because the nights are lighter longer so no longer spends hours curled up under the radiator or on the bed.

Perhaps I'm being over panicky but I just wondered if anyone else's cat is eating a bit less due to the warm weather.

I'll monitor her and if it continues then I'll run her down to the vets for the once over.

not to put finer point on but is she erm maybe supplementing her diet with small furry things or feathery flying things. They are abundant this time of year. Also don't put it past her to go visiting and getting fed by kindly unsuspecting neighbours.

Don't worry too much and keep an eye on her. If you feel she is behaving abnormally or you think she is losing condition get her to the vets for a check up just in case. It would also put your mind at rest.

I dont think she's eating anything furry...she tends to bring home her "catch of the day" and she hasnt come home with anything lately so I dont think its that.

Also, the neighbours all know she's my cat (she also has a name tag round her neck) so I doubt if anyone is feeding her.

The only other thing I could think of is that this is the time of BBQ's.....maybe a few stray sausages have gone missing from people's BBQs...!!

I'm not overly worried as she is sort of nibbling at her food..not like she's gone off it completely.

Will still look out for furry objects, just in case!!

My two outdoor cats don't eat as much for breakfast at least, they can't wait to be let outside in the morning. I think there are a lot of distractions for cats when it's sunny!

How much wet food does she have. I feed mine 2 tins in the morning. 2 about 1pm ish thats when one usualy stands by there dishes and 2 at supper time. They do have tip bits but i have 12 cats and that doesnt go far. Sometimes they eat it all at once other times they leave it. They also have biscuits in between sometimes its the only way i can get some too come inside. I wouldnt worry to much about her not eating as much it is getting warmer now. Mine all get 200gms per cat per day.

Both my cats seem to be on hunger strike at the moment. The older one (10) goes out hunting though and is doubtless catching his own food more now it's a bit warmer and there is abundant wildlife about. But my littl'un (18 mths) who hardly ever goes out has hardly eaten anything for weeks now, and my DH is as worried about her as you are about yours, OP.

Personally I think she's just a fussy little devil and gets bored with the same make of food after a few days - we've now tried every make known to man and although she badgers us for food, once she sniffs it she turns her nose up at everything! Mind you she does nibble on dry food occasionally which is down all the time for both of them.

But she doesn't seem to be losing weight and is otherwise happy so I'm not too worried at the moment.

It's a problem and if anyone else can suggest anything I'd be interested to hear it!

its the heat that does it. My pride are the same every year.

I was gonna say the same. My 3 year old moggy has always done it when the weather warms up and my 1 year old moggy is now the same. So I've simply cut down on how much food they have ie instead of a pouch each they have half of one each... which they still barely finish

As said its just the weather.


Mine are exactly the same. They had me up at about 6.20am this morning but they didn't want breakfast they wanted to go out.

lorry - I think you were right when you said they're fussy little devils. I try to change her food from one brand to another just to keep her interested. One day she loves Beef flavoured pouches, next time she sniffs her nose at it!

As I said, she's healthy enough so think its just the time of year.

Rolo refuses the beef ones completely,be it Felix or Whiskers, but strangley he whoops down the Gourmay Pearls one as though their's no tomorrow, and is patrial to a bit of rump steak too !!!

The problem I'm finding is that when I buy the pouches, they're in boxes of 12.......you know...3 x chicken, 3 x beef and so on.

If I buy a box of pouches, and its normally Felix or Whiskas, and she sticks her nose in the air for them...I'm stuck with all these pouches of food that she wont eat!

The problem I've got is that oldest cat needs his medication in the morning and the only way I can give it to him is by crushing it in his food, so if he's not eating, it's a bit difficult. Hopefully he'll get used to the weather soon. Meanwhile, diabetic cat is consuming double portions, including oldest cat's heart meds (vet says it won't do him any harm)!

Maybe I should find some roadkill and put the meds in there for him?

My cat is called Rolo too
He will only eat Felix in a tray, not pouch, as wet food, and Royal Canin for his dry food.
I tried to fool him, by putting other cat food into an empty tray of Felix, and then at feeding time pretended that it was the real article. Shame on me... he looked at the food then at me, and you could see what he thought of it. Needless to say that he didn't eat it.

Back to OP... mine eats less now, compared to a month ago.

The Goumet Perle, is available as seperate sachets in Waitrose and Sainsbury's, Mini fillets of Beef, Chicken and Fish, they are 39p each.

I agree about the boxes as always having beef included. As my lad is 8+ I buy the Felix Senior and you can get a mixed one with Rabbit, Duck and two fishy ones, but for the normal ones, they always include beef

Chiming in with a fussy cat. Mine regularly for no real reason decides she doesn't care for a particular brand anymore - usually just after I've stocked up after the supermarket has decided to have an offer on her highnessess current favorite It helps if you know some other cats owners, I've started swopping with some women at work - although we've all found our cats will all quite happily eat Tescos own brand pouches - I'm convinced there's cat crack in them.

As long as she's alert and healthy, has access to dry food and water I wouldn't worry, if she seems lethargic and uninterested in any food at any point get her to the vets, cats can deteriorate surprisingly quickly once they stop eating comletely.

Susie-4964, a tip I picked up on another forum is that cats go a bit bonkers for baby food. Check there's no onions or garlic, but plain chicken/meaty ones go down a treat with poorly cats apparently.

Thanks, if he's still not eating much by tomorrow, I might try tuna - they usually love that, as it smells quite strong. The meds aren't too crucial, he can do without for a little while, and he seems quite happy and is purring and interested in what's going on outside, although as he's now 17 years old, I worry a bit more about him when he's a bit "off".

My cat would love to live at your place .

My two also aren't eating much the past week and I have compiled a list (not comprehensive, I'm sure theres a fair few sachets I've missed at the back of the cupboard) of the selection they have on offer:

HiLife Petit Pate
Sheba (various)
Gourmet Gold (small tins - they went mad over these for a few days, now look at me with disdain even when I open the tin)
Felix sensations - new recipes on offer at various supermarkets, again thought I was on to a winner, very short-lived
Felix various in jelly, including steaklets (the latter will normally work when all else fails)
Waitrose - picked up a couple of sachets, they WOULD NOT touch the Venison, even after I'd told them how lucky they were and that I hadn't even tasted Venison
Gourmet Perle - not to be served 2 meals running, even if considered a success the 1st time around
Various Asda/Whiskas/Feline Fayre (?) sachets for dire emergencies

and dried food and Cat Milk......
and tuna

And they make me feel like I'm serving up gruel for them every mealtime

My cat also stops eating much at this time of year too, she's a greedy wotsit most of the time. She's an indoor cat so unlikely to be catching lil furries. (I hope so anyway ) She also gets very grumpy. I've always put it down to the weather.

On the subject of pickiness with food, she likes most brands for about 3 meals then goes off them. I've got a kitchen cupboard with boxes of diff brands just so I can swap them over. Never goes off tuna or Whiska's Oh So Fishy tho. My other half says that she should just get what she's given but I can't stand the waste. Could leave a previous favourite there for days and she still wouldn't eat it.

I have about 3 boxes of mix n match pouches that she no longer likes. Hopefully they'll come back "into fashion" with her and I can start opening them!
