i'm considering getting o2 home phone (already have their BB)

i have BT unlimited evening and weekend with F&F mobile ( all mobile calls are 7.2 ppm with 9.9p set up)
i was thinking about the similar with O2 (9.50 per month) but would also want to take the caller display option of 1.75 per month as well

based on above packages, a 20 min call from a bt line to another landline would be about £1.28, in comparison the O2 call would cost about 99p. but to mobiles a 20 min call daytime using Bt would be about £1.54 and with O2 £2.49!!!!

i know i would save a small maount on monthly line rental, but is it worth it in the longer term? i pay on the payment plan of £20 per month and am always in credit (they owe me)

what does anyone think about this, or does nayone have a different comparison?

there isn't significant enough saving for me to switch from BT to O2 home phone...... besides.... you may well find you're tied into the BT 12 month rolling contract to qualify for free evening and weekend calls.

I already have their broadband... do you have the old style O2 broadband router... (blue one) it has sockets at the back for a VOIP line, and I've connected mine to sipgate which is loads cheaper to use than BT.

i'm tied to bt until june (not that long).

my O2 wireless box is the white one version 2?, i dont think it has a voip port- to be honest i use my mobile all/most of the time, just have the landline for 08 calls and incoming!

bear in mind then, that BT include 0870 and 0845 numbers in the free evening and weekends thing. I'm not sure of O2 do?

Looking into this myself and they include the 0870 and 0845 numbers in their anytime package. You basically get everything that BT do in their Unlimited Anytime package for £12.50, but if you are not a O2 Mobile customer, but have their broadband then it is going to work out a £1.50 dearer.

You will be paying £12.50 for phone line and anytime package and £15.00 for broadband unless you are an O2 mobile customer then your broadband goes down £10.00

On their evening and weekend package that is basically what you get just free evening and weekend calls and that is £9.50 per month.

I think the only incentive is if you are an O2 mobile customer then you it is about £4.50 cheaper than BT.

That's a call which costs 5p for most people who read Martin Lewis's site.

I don't think your point about the incentive with an O2 mobile holds. If you've already got an O2 mobile and O2 broadband, you get the discount on broadband with a BT line anyway. So it comes down to a straight comparison between O2 vs. BT. landline charges.

You also need to factor in how much you value caller ID and voicemail, which are included in the equivalent BT packages. Add those back to the O2 prices and the Anytime O2 package works out at the same price as BT, but the Evening & Weekend package is more expensive.

I was ment to be moving to o2 but Bt have matched o2 and I'm paying £12.53 a month for there anytime plan and I also get free 1571 and free caller display normally £2.75 a month from o2.

How much is call barring with 02 ?

£2.59 a month on its own, or less than half that if you take it as part of a package of Calling Features.

O2 charge £1.75 for Call Barring as a single bolt on, or £3.50 a month as part of the Family Pack with caller display and call waiting.

One small point: O2 have excellent support, and they speak English - how much is that worth to you?

Contract with bt runs out, so I had thought about going to o2 home phone, but thought I would give bt a chance to offer some incentive for me to stay!
Anyway, long story short, called bt said might be off to o2 can they match price? Nearly! Gave me the same package that I am on , so free evening and week ends to land lines and the reduced mobile call rate if I sign for 12 months all at £10.79 per month Inc vat!!
Was going to take the £9.50 per month o2 package but with the caller display bolt on for an additional £1.75 per month, so bt finally came through, all it took was a 5 minutes free phone call to bt and ended up not getting out through to india!!

I use a provider who has a one month contract on the phoneline and the same with broadband.

0800 to call support and UK call centre.

I think there are other considerations apart from price.......but for some obviously the price is the main thing.
