Mash up question
annie75

Can anyone tell me why Graham does that funny thing with his elbows every time he says 'Mash-up'? Is he pretending to be a space invader?
And how long will it take the BBC to work out their 'Unique Dorothy Mash-ups' are, in fact, Medleys?

Normally I would agree they are medleys, but the Just Dance/Bad Romance section was a proper mash-up wasn't it??

The Lady Gaga part of this weeks mashup was the most mashup-like performance i've seen but i would still class it as a medley myself.

I think they are calling them a mashup because they are mashing together a musical number with a pop song (or two). Calling it a mashup for that reason does kind of make sense, it's just a shame mashup is used to describe something totally different aswel.

Your question really made me laugh. I could just see Graham doing it when I read your comment! I've no idea why he does it, it's really annoying!!!!

When you say "mash up" and do the elbow thing, ity gives the phrase a slightly different meaning. That would be "loosely linked medley".

The Lady Gaga/Fred Astaire medley was the nearest they've got to a proper mash-up, but it was, I think, still technically a medley. It's not as if they haven't been told. We've banged on about it at length, and people have done the same on the OTR Facebook page.

I hadn't noticed Graham's elbow movements! Thanks for the tip - I'll watch closely in future.

I only properly noticed Graham's elbow movement this weekend. But if you watch him, each time he says 'Mash-up' he does it. He looks like a hunched up hamster.
If I were more technically minded I'd do a screen grab, or even better, my very own medley of Graham's 'mash-up' moves...

Lol - I only noticed it this week, purely because it was pointed out on this forum. Yup, he did it again! Very bizarre. Give us a clue, Graham, what is that movement supposed to represent?

Or making a cheerleader/Village Street People style 'M' for 'mash up'? I think I could be reaching here.

At least on Saturday he finally acknowledged that they're not mash-ups, they're medleys.
Still did the 'M' move though. I *think* he's trying to mime an 'M' but if I were miming an M I would put two bent arms out in front of me, YMCA style.

Oops, Village Street People??? Where did that come from? Maybe shouldn't post while the kids are still up and crawling over me.

On the last one Graham did actually say it was a medley.

They are calling them "mash-ups" because they are trying to jump on the Glee bandwagon.

That was so funny when everyone in the audience laughed, as if they'd been reading the threads on here, or chatting with friends about how these were not mashups but medleys. I get the feeling Graham knows this (I hear he sometimes comes on the forums - how do we know this btw?). it seemed a Graham thing rather than scripted =]

Yes, the Gaga thing seemed closer but still no cigar! Mash-ups are two songs played at once aren't they? How can you not have noticed his crazy elbow movements maybe you had your eyes shut cringing at ALW making a mashup related joke about sausages or something.

I get the feeling Graham knows the whole thing is ridiculous. He's in on the joke!
