TomTom sat nav - turns on by itself?
Sadperson

Hi
I've had this blasted Sat Nav for well over two years now and being a bit slow on the uptake I've only just noticed that it seems to have a mind of it's own.

I thought it was odd that even though I always run it from the power socket in the car, it never seemed to hold a sufficient charge to operate indoors.

So - left it on the dining room table recently - and the room was in darkness - when I noticed it had switched itself on. Wasn't doing anything (no route set) but just sitting there.

This has happened several times since, nothing around that could be interfering with it, so I assume that's why the thing would never work unless it was plugged in.

Anyone else having/had this problem, and do you know if there's a solution?

Call 1-800-Ghostbusters?

You could try draining the battery completely then re-charge to full. See if the problem still persists.

I've done some googling and this appears to be a commonly experienced problem, which TomTom don't appear to have found a fix for

And thanks Prankz, but since the thing is completely drained every time I go to use it, and I have recharged to full - nothing changes - that solution doesn't sort it.

Sounds like a faulty battery??

Sounds like faulty software if it is turning itself on for no obvious reason.

My TomTom ONE is about the same age and does the same. Doesn't hold much battery and sometimes turns itself on. I don't like being told to turn right in the middle of the night!

Maybe it turns itself on to say 'turn right, park car in garage'

I've had this occasionally and I'm sure I've read somewhere before that it usually happens if you haven't ccompleted the route before you turn it off - for example when I reach my house it thinks I still have 50 yards left to go, so I have to manually clear the route before I turn it off.

Haven't proved this to be the cause though, although I know the few times I've found it turned on this has been the case.
Tip is don't leave the Tom Tom in your bedroom as when it starts talking at 4am it makes you wake up in a panic!
