Watched the shenanigans on ITV1/2 last night (woeful attempt by ITV2 BTW) and have to ask why half the cast of "Corrie" stayed away.

By my reckoning none of the following characters were present

Ken & Deirdre, Peter (nominated) Blanche, Fred & Ashley, Todd, Betty, Janice, Dev & Maya, Gail, Nick, David, Martin, Audrey, Kevin, Rosie, Sophie, Tyrone, Jack, Vera, Ciaran (nominated) and all the Harrises except Katy.

That's just off the top of my head and does not include the new Baldwins despite the fact that a similarly yet-to-appear Leanne WAS there.

Did they get tipped off they weren't on the winners' podium and decide to do their hair that night instead or do they just not attend these dos?

Also I felt Richard Fleeshman should have been nominated in the Young Actor category - a definite oversight. Natalie Cassidy looked rather embarrassed to win this year and admitted she would turn 21 (thus out of the running) 2 days later. THo I don't watch "Emmerdale" I thought the lad from that was the best of the nominees (Sam Aston will prob walk it next year).

Any other ommissions or oversights and any conspiracy theories to back them up?

I thought the Corrie cast who were there was a strange selection... we had people like Harry and Sonia (who has never actually had a storyline to my knowledge) but some of the big characters weren't there.... it must just be that they didn't wanna go... i don't think Bruno who plays Todd likes award shows, he wasn't at the BAFTAs although he was singing at a charity thing....

Audrey definitely has attended in the past, as she's given speeches - and was very funny as I remember.

I can't believe there wasn't a nomination from Coronation Street for best comedy peformance.

Especially as most people would acknowledge that they do comedy better than any of the other soaps.

I think Corrie have had some fantastic comedy performances over the past year- like Kirk's Eminem impression, for example!

Sonia storyline - set up to try to get off with Martin (?) at the Harris's barbecue. They were both very drunk, remember that one?

Same could be said for Betty who is due for her once-a-decade storyline about now.

I hate to sound so cynical but I suspect Corrie has her there to be PC.
I really find it hard to beleive that in Manchester in a similar street and factory there would only be one black person.

Jack Shepherd A.K.A David Platt didn't go cos he said it is rubbish and fixed, I think that will go for tha majority of members who aren't fussed.

Well done to Natalie Cassidy for being slightly embarrassed to pick up this particular award. Although if she met the age limit for the award she does deserve it, but I think she should have been in the Best Actress category. Natalie is one of the very few reasons I still dip into EastEnders now and again, and nice of her to mention Chesney in her speech.

Rather than Richard Fleeshman I think the actress who plays Fiz should have been nominated. If Natalie Cassidy meets the age limit, I am pretty sure she would too. At first she was a kind of comical character but recently she has been very good in the scenes with Cilla and really touching in the scenes with Chesney. And Fiz and Kirk could easily have been up for best on screen partnership, although Roy and Hayley deserved to win.

I thought Wendi Peters who plays Cilla was robbed. Nigel Harman is a good looking guy who has practically single handedly kept EastEnders watchable if only for the sheer eye candy, but Wendi acts him off the screen.

With EE winning best soap, I think overall the only categories that should be voted for by the public are the Sexiest Man and Woman. The panel who voted for some of the awards should vote for them all, that way all the deserving winners would win.

Shows how immature he is , with an attitude like that im sure he will go much further than 'The Street'

Considering that most of the people who gave out awards are 'ITV Stars' it is much more likely to be fixed for them, after all it is shown on that rabble.

Oh because the votes were counted there? I have inside info from The Sun that Pat Evans was seen switching the envelopes so that Eastenders would win!

BBC television centre

or

ITV (wherever that may be! )

And just need to mention the article in The Sun 'Soaps at war' hardly they said that the character who plays hayley said "I told Jessie its ours!!" I could clearly see that this was something made up. Hayley was laughing and out of her seat when EE won

Maybe she said it to Jessie later on at the party? I was absolutely stunned EastEnders won. And everyone thanking Louise Berridge? They should be demanding someone better! She said they had the best cast, crew and writers in the world? They didn't even have the best cast, crew and writers in that room!

Probably the limited space may result in many of the non-attending stars. Most likely each soap was offered so many seats and discussions would have been made to see who would go.

Jack P Shepard has as much right as anyone to an opinion, regardless of his age.
Please tell me how Jessie Wallace was voted sexiest female ?!

Just that "Corrie" seemed to have the greatest dent in it's populace. I'm not sure whether the companies have to pay for however many tickets (many of these apparently glam dos are not freebies) and Granada were mean this year ...?

Well Corrie is now 5 episodes a week and thats a lot of work. Maybe a lot of people had to stay in Manchester and work during the Saturday and Sunday? Dev and Maya have the cancer storyline coming up so maybe they just had to flim scenes because of the large turnover of episodes? I know it's easy to say they should be allowed a night off, but it wouldn't surprise me if that was the case. It would also explain how a few less than major characters were filling up seats.

Exactly, and the cast of Corrie have to travel down from Manchester as well, so if they do have filiming to do then they wouldn't have been able to go and come back in time.
