Well, if you take the word Screwdriver and....Oh s*d it, all I was actually trying to get at is that the sonic screwdriver River had in silence in the library was the Doctor's which he gave to her...but it was destroyed in TEH!?!

I think the screwdriver River had in SitL was actually different to both the old one and the current one, it looked chunkier.

Well, it would have made sense for him to pick up the modified one and take it with him at the end of FOTD because he knew he'd have to give it to her later/earlier.

No you're just missing the fact that the Doctor could have multiple copies of the screwdriver.
We saw Doc#10's screwdriver destroyed and thrown away in "Smith and Jones", he had an exact copy by the end of the episode.
No reason he could not create another copy to give to River.
Or as said he had Rivers screwdriver after the Library story and could just hand that back to her (we'll ignore the problem of who actually did the upgrades to it
).
