Hi all,

If you're eagerly awaiting Morrissey's new album on Monday, like me, then you might like to treat your ears to a listen of the whole album here.

Cheers,

was really looking forward to it after hearing the single, and the general good *return to form* vibe about it, but Q slated it a bit. (not that Q is that reliable these days) - so will be good to have a listen later.

What nonsense. Q reviews are and always have been just one individual's opinion. If a different individual had reviewed it, the review may have been very different.

Wow, listening now and for a 62Kbps stream it's pretty good quality. Hopefully I'll be seeing Morrisey live at Move this year

Argh...

I'm trying to listen today, and crappy old Internet Explorer is crashing after almost every track. A not so nice reminder of why I switched browers to Mozilla Firefox a while ago

I'm amazed Mr Moz is guesting on the Jonathan Ross show tonight. I thought he considered himself above appearing on such trivial TV shows. He must be desperate to sell his new album!

Is that not the case with any review?

It should be. That's the point I was making. Iain was making a comment that alleged that Q Magazine was not as reliable as it once was, but I was pointing out that just because one writer on the magazine gave a particular album a bad review doesn't necessarily reflect on the whole magazine. Another writer on the mag may well have given a good review and would Iain have made the same generalisation about the magazine? Probably not.

Maybe he meant the quality of their writers have gone downhill recently?

Maybe. Only Iain can answer that. But surely that opinion would be just as subjective and open to debate as the reviews by the writers upon whom the judgment is being made, wouldn't it? At the end of the day, it all comes down to opinions.

Deja vu!

If you'd all ordered the new album from Play you'd have received it by now (like me).

My opinion? Truthfully, I have only listened to it once - definitely needs a few more listens before I can decide. Just got an MP3 player so that should help!

Yep, and so was the Q Reviewer too. How is his opinion less valid than anyone else's and how does it reflect on the whole magazine?

it doesn't. unless you were over analysing a throwaway comment and taking it too seriously and literally.

(i guess it would be churlish here to note that marillion songs tend to overanalyse things and take things too seriously and literally at this point? )

Tend? Present tense? Dear me, Iain, surely you wouldn't still be judging them by what you heard in the Fish days? Time to catch up, perhaps?

Incidentally, Marillion's new album got a very bad review in the same issue of Q. But I can accept it was one person's opinion. I'm not judging the whole magazine based on it.

am i going to have to say yet again that i wasn't actually judging the magazine, but that it was merely a throwaway comment?

(actually, i was just surprised that, in the same issue, the slated morrissey, rated prince quite so highly, and gave both prince and alanis morrissett (a Q friendly artist i'd have thought) such small reviews.

i shouldn't have said that should i?
