I got my entire youth club to try it (and put it on youtube), and last night made it again and had my dad try it.

We both LOVE it! Haha! It's such a strange thing to eat, but surprisingly tastes lovely!

Has anybody else tried it? And what did you think?

My 11 year old has mentioned it a few times as something he wants for dinner

Hahaha! That was my first thoughts too, but as soon as I tried it, I found that it really wasn't that bad! Quite addictive actually...

I've had custard on fish loads of times. But they called it Hollandaise on the menu, not Bird's.

Funny I should spy this thread. I was on the bus going to work today, and an old work chum from my last place said hiya. Bit of a Who fan, we had a brief chat about it, and then he dropped the bombshell that he had actually tried the fish custard thing! I didn't believe him at first, who would do that? But then he said the taste of the custard completely swamps the taste of the fish. And it wasn't that bad! It all comes out smelling the same, he said!

So there you are.

Ah, but wouldn't this depend very much on the type of fish and the consistency of the custard used? Even in the humble fish finger, there is a certain amount of variation of taste.

Oh, probably.

It's funny, because usually on hearing something like that I'd be a bit sniffy and go, "Sheesh, that's a bit sad, doing something a silly program led you to do". But actually, I thought it was quite neat that Doctor Who could have such influence to drive someone otherwise quite intelligent in everyday life to try it!

Indeed, after viewing the End of Time part 1 I rushed out and ate two homeless people and two hamburger stand workers.

It's not my fault, really. It's hard to find custard in Canada.

And I've been sleeping with my butcher to get better cuts of meat.

(I wish that was true. This is my neighbourhood butcher: http://www.thestar.com/business/smal...416480#article)

Phwoar! He's a prime cut and no mistake (plus a thousand other meat-related hunk jokes)!

I've also had an addiction to kronkburgers for some time with a glass of protein 1 with a dash of 3 to wash it down. Don't care much for the carrots though...

My 6 year old HAD to try it a few days after it aired, he had veggie fingers and custard, and managed to eat 2 of them, dipping them liberally.

He declared after his meal'next time I'll have ketchup'

If it starts showing up on pub menus we'll know it's really had an impact!

are people really so sheep like that they would even consider trying fish fingers & custard?

People cook recipes from cookery shows, why not from DW too?

because on cookery shows, the professional chefs are trying to make good food, on Doctor Who, the Doctor is post regeneration, and more importantly Moffatt is trying to gross people out.

would it be ok, if people started cooking Soylent Green after seeing that movie?

I'd be a bit concerned if kids were refusing apples and yogourt based on the episode, but if someone feels like trying fish fingers with custard as a lark, what's the harm? Would you also consider people sheep for trying Jelly Babies or Jammy Dodgers? How about chips - the Doctor had them with Rose?

Sheep-like? How dare you! What's wrong with indulging in a little bit of fun? It was a new experience, and a new taste to try. And I liked it.

I was eating Jelly Babies and chips long before Doctor Who entered my life.

That's a massive leap you've taken from a savoury/sweet children's mash-up to full on (spoiler for those who haven't seen the film mentioned above)
