I wonder how many people would do that - run out in front of motorway traffic to save a compadre

Wonderful

How amazing and how sad. I have two dogs. mother and daughter. If one is ill and has to stay at the vet the other will not eat and is inconsolable. Dogs really are capable of incredible love and sympathy.

Oh yeah. I've got a tom like that. Anyone breaks in and they get the cat chucked at them.

lol - thanks anyway. One is 15 and one is 13 so they do have frequent trips!! Dread to think what will happen - it cannot be to long now. But, at least they think they are young!!!!

Yes. *nods*

While we're talking about how cats are awesome, my cat has managed to teach himself to climb down ladders. I think he figures that it doesn't fit his image to mew piteously at the top of them until someone cuddles him and fetches him down. He spent weeks learning, pacing the bottom of the loft-ladder and appearing to draw up tactics etc. like it was his Everest. Now he noses the hatch up and sneaks into my bed every other night, goddamn him.

That's what I thought.

You see the crows and foxes round here all the time dragging stuff off the road. Never seen it described as a rescue attempt though.

It's why I admire cats but wouldn't really want one as a pet.

But also why, as a single person, living in a second floor flat and working all day, one of them would be a better companion than a puppy dog.

But I just yearn for a puppy dog that I could call Flurry.

I love dogs. I love everything about them. (Well almost everything.) I love their lack of shame. I love their lack of false pride. I love their total honesty. And I love their total openness.

Your dog doesn't care that she or you looks like shite. She doesn't care that you have the crappest car in the street. She doesn't care that it's uncool to beg to be included in the family outing. She does care that sometimes she's left behind and she sulks a bit. But she always gets over it (usually around dinner time).

Dogs are just nicer than people. Yeah, they're a bit dirty (at least mine is) but who cares?

My dog knew when I was pissed off, upset or worrying about something.

If I was sat on the sofa he'd walk over really slowly, without making eye contact with me. He'd turn his back when he got right next to me and sort of back up toward me. Then he'd sit down and lean against my leg, still facing away.

He'd just stay there and stare straight ahead.

He stood by me.

RIP boy.
