Need Inspiration - main course/prepare ahead
I'm cooking for my boyfriend tomorrow and my mind is blank - I cannot think what I fancy eating, or what to cook. He is allergic to onions, but apart from that, pretty much anything goes.
I would like something that's ideally pretty quick to prepare at the time, or that I can prepare in advance and just bung in the oven when he arrives. I've got all day free, so I wanted to make something nicer than just a quick knocking-something-together-after-work that I usually do. Nothing overly elaborate though, as he's not that sort of bloke. Does anyone have any great ideas? |

Curries or stews can be made in advance and heated up later on, but could you consider making a stew without onions?
![]() A steak would be quick and easy with little preperation. A chicken breast either, wrapped or stuffed or both could be prepared in advance and popped into the oven. |

He does like a nice steak, as do I. I've done them twice fairly recently though, so maybe I could do some chicken... I'll have a think. |

Lamb shanks cooked low and slow over 4-5 hours. Simply served with buttery mash or pomegranite jewelled cous cous? Possibly a green bean side dish with tomatoes and garlic on the side.
For desert a simple chilled lemon tart with some vanilla cream to cut the acidity. Paired with a full bodied red wine for the main and a sweet fizzy Moscato for dessert I don't think you'd go far wrong. |

A nice lasagne done from scratch would probably tick all the boxes, serve with crusty bread (make your own or get part bake rolls for the extra tasty factor) and salad with a pesto based dressing.
Or what about a slow roasted joint with trimmings, doesn't have to just be for Sundays! |

I'd be stuck too if I couldn't use onions! How about a fish pie?

Thanks for all the ideas! I've done lasagne and fish pie recently (very successful) so I might go for some slow roast pork, as I've got all afternoon to play with...
