Had a usual update .."Is it OK to update?..this morning..
Said OK and forgot all about it..
Thought that I would mow the lawn as it was pushing 70F down here..
I glanced across the the Humax and the Red indicator light was more than TWICE as bright as usual the last 5 months.
I have cataracts and said nowt and then before 'Loose Women'..
Janet said.." I meant to tell you that the Red light is shining much more brightly.. Is it dangerous?"
Janet usually watches LW on SKY but i said i'd pop the hUmax on and ..
I saw that the BLUE light is brighter than before..
After dinner..always at Noon for us.. i gave the box a good run thru..
Brought up the dreaded Sub titlles at catch up... but everything else Tickety-Boo..
Sorry not more quantitative ..but it would have been in Old-fashioned Candelas anyway..
May indicate a slight voltage variation somewhere

Has someone stolen the drop down flap from the front of your box?

Many thanks..Jepson
I had forgotten that i had had my first dabble with the Front USB..
However..
The Opal screen is a highly engineered job for converting the output LED to a sophisticated display.. A delight..
The rest of the see thru' plastic is just that ..virtual 100% transmission..
However the Hole in front of the receptor for the IR appears covered by an extra covering of of what i guess is ND2/ND4 opacity??
In view of the Opal excellence..
One must assume a valid reason for this dark cover..
I could not scrape it off.. so if it's protective covering ..It's lousy design..
In view of moans re sharpness of beam and power output of the Remote..
i with all my years of investigative engineering am Puzzled ..
I have no problems..but if i did i would certainly remove this seemingly un-needed filter..It can hardly be a lense?

Anyone?

Soemone one here has recently reported doing a hand set mod that involves replacing the standard IR emitter with a high power one. The result apparently is a hand set that performs perfectly thereby suggesting the standard handset is maybe a little weak.

As for ND filters, maybe there was some concern with interference from other extraneous IR light.
