I don't see why we have to have opening credits at all-the old series never did. It just looks cheesy and Americanised to me. The place for the credits is at the end (where you should be able to read them, without them being squeezed out by advertising). That way, everyone's contribution is recognised equally.
They went overboard on it during the end of Series 4, then again the show was built up as being huge. So it can be justified. The only one not to make sense is John Barrowman during the first series. Then again if you look at it, with the exemption of minor characters (i.e. Donna's mother) those who reappear later in the show are credited (John Simm, Barrowman, Cribbins, Sladen(if you count her first appearance as not being way back in the 70s)). |

Cheesy? really the only thing they did was remove the face and added in the actor playing the Doctor name into it plus the companion. Thats a lot less cheesy than what it use to be, who can forget the 7th Doctor's wink!

I think John Barrowman and Elisabeth Sladen got their credits in series 4 (and 3 for JB) because of their roles in Torchwood and SJA, in which they're the main stars. Their debuts in series 1 and 2 pre-date the spin-offs.

Yes, Delia Derbyshire!
For the benefit of those who don't know, Delia co-wrote and produced the original Doctor Who theme tune along with Ron Grainer, who is credited. It was Ron's wish that Delia should be credited as co-writer but, so the story goes, the BBC objected to this. Things were very different then. |

Title sequence is the stock video clip played in every episode, opening credits is credits at the start - which includes the writer and actor credits in the title sequence, but also the additional credits played over the opening scenes.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opening_credits The genesis being that one is credited for something that one has done, hence the fact that credit appears after the programme. |

I definitely think that Alex Kingston deserved to be in the opening credits for all her four episodes, particularly Forest of the Dead. The only other one which I really find to be quite unjust is John Simm not getting an opening credit for Sound of Drums/Last of the Time Lords - and he rightly recieved one for The End of Time.
