whaaaaaaaaaaat oh for heavens sake i will still be at work. why cant they just go back to the old days and start at 7?! no wonder the viewers are dipping, starting at that ridiculously inconvenient hour.
and no i dont want to record it, i like to watch it as it happens !!

From the DW news page:

Quote:
“The earlier spot appears to be to accommodate a longer edition of Over The Rainbow. It is understood that the production team of the talent show were reluctant to be scheduled against Britain's Got Talent and wanted Doctor Who to be moved to an earlier slot.”

Over The Rainbow!!!(*shakes fist*)

I just googled the ratings for Over the Rainbow. Apparently the first episode got 4.3 million viewers. Then it surged ahead to 5.8 million - it's series high so far.

Considering Doctor Who has been pulling 8-10 million, I really don't see how the Over the Rainbow crew can be making demands. Even the Doctor's lower overnight ratings are still higher than their series best. Surely that makes Who the heavyweight and should be treated with more respect than that dismal talent show.

Yes, the Doc has found his new arch nemesis!!!! I can see your comment catching on soon!!!! Poor Moffat must be spinning in his fairytale imagination- he's waited years for this job and now the BBC is messing around with the show. Not fair on him, Matt Smith, Karen Gillan and everyone that has put the hard work in to get the show made. Poor Alex Kingston who has so far had to endure the brunt of Over the Rainbow.... Graham Norton seems to be out after her episodes

We should start a new complaint thing on the BBC if this persists. I think its still too soon, but if they do the same with THE then we should all complain!

Its hardly the point tho, some people like to watch around the box with their family- it is a family show. What is worse is that the time of the show keeps changing as well, I personally do not see this as fair, seeing as we pay the license fee. Sure, I dont like Over the Rainbow and the figures prove that a lot of people do, but there was never this problem before.

To be fair the start times for most prime time shows on a Saturday evening keep changing, not just DW. I shouldn't like it to start any earlier than 6pm though.

I think this is a one off start time because of the added running length to OTR that week though.

If i catch up elsewhere which i will have to, my viewing figure won't count, and that will be the case for a lot of people. Hence viewing figures drop, because catch up tv doesnt count in figures atm, once viewing figures drop, then we start getting issues, and the BBC will start messing even more!

Yes, lets just hope it doesn't become a regular habit. As we approach the summer, viewing ratings tend to go down, even if audience share balances out.

Any earlier than 6pm and I shall definately be complaining, which I have never done before. It is oddly thrilling

1) unless you have a BARB box your viewing figure won't count regaurdless

2) Episodes starting post 7pm have an identical audience averages to those starting before 7pm (excluding xmas specials).

If it shown at breakfast, see as a bonus, won't have any Graham Norton Banners then, though I suppose you might get one with a frying pan advertising Saturday Kitchen....

I remember the day it was on at half past 3 in the afternoon: Castrovalva (part 1).

If you were in Scotland.

As I said all prime time shows on a Saturday evening are subject to different start times, not just DW.

I may not like OTR either, but it still gets over 5 million viewers every week regardless.

What an odd thing to ask.

Spoiler
I don't intend to smear my wrong-headed views over every thread! We have enough of that already.

I say six is fine. A nice bit at six on a warm Saturday evening should cheer us all up.

far less people will watch it at 6pm, than a later time, that is a fact! i dont want the bbc to go down the old route of 'the ratings have dropped, lets ditch it alltogether' they did it before and theres no reason they wont do it again!!

The ratings weren't the only reason it was cancelled. The "Sixth Floor" at the BBC, apparently, found it an embarrassment and so did most of the media. Things are different nowadays. Plus, it's only twenty minutes earlier than last Saturday and another series is confirmed.

Where do you get your information from to claim that as fact when, as Muttley has said, the airing time has not affected ratings of DW at all in the past, so why should it now?

And even if it did suffer (I don't think it will though), do you really think the BBC are going to cancel the show over 1 bad rating, when all episodes in this series so far have got excellent ratings? This isn't the USA, shows aren't cancelled due to only a couple of episodes ratings.

No it is not a fact! I doubt it will make much difference at all, especially in the final ratings. Again, look at the ratings data for the show since 2005 and it shows that episodes starting before 7pm have the same average as those after 7pm. Based on that there is no reason to think there will be a vast difference in ratings through it starting what amounts to a few minutes earlier than it has been for one week. Do you honestly think many less people will be tuning in at 6pm as opposed to around 6.15pm?
