Check above - The Time of Angels' ratings increased as the episode went on. I wish I had the figures for the other three episodes this series to see if this is a regular occurence or a one off. I'd guess on the former, but one set of figures can only give a portion of the picture.

As I also said above was that I watch both shows, so it wouldn't matter a jot for me personally which show comes first. 6.20pm is late enough for me to catch it (indeed, as is 6pm). But that doesn't stop me thinking - my personal thought - that it could and should be on later.

Thirdly - this is a forum. Of course it's about what people think/want. It's totally based on opinion.

Fourthly - you mean your niece is being deprived of the joys of Over the Rainbow because the BBC schedule it too late? The gits.

True - but his original argument tends to stick more than his backdown.

My argument isn't about the 20 minute change though - as you say it shouldn't have that big effect. Regarding my view on the later spot - you can argue about the video/DVD/Harddrive situation for those who it'd be too late for. As I said, there's an argument and counter argument.

That happens with pretty much every episode of DW regardless of what time it starts. Sorry another invalid point.

Fair point. Hmmm, maybe it should start at midnight?

I'm fairly sure that wouldn't be a good move...

Dunno if you quite got what I mean though: whatever time an episode of DW starts it will add viewers as the episode progresses. I think mainly due to the fact that it picks up causal viewers that have been channel hopping, so there is actually no link between the start time and the gradual build up of viewers as the episode progresses.

I think we have a tenancy to forget that most of the audience isn't as passionate about the show as us and they don't all feel the need to be sat in front of their tv as soon as an episode starts either.

Yeah, I did get what you mean. I was just speaking tongue firmly in cheek.

To be honest, I only expected there to be a brief discussion about late starts then it to move on - I didn't quite expect it to lead into such an intense debate. Think I'll tread more carefully next time on the scheduling issue lol.

I personally think the best time to watch Doctor Who is just 8pm, and in our household that is just when it is. The wonders of modern technology, eh?

At the end of the day, it does not matter a jot how many other people watch it as it's future is assured until the end of the next season, so it comes down to whether it is convenient to you. If not, there are plenty of alternatives to enable you to watch it slightly later.

On a related matter, it seems BGT has been bumped to Sunday to make way for the Champions' League Final on ITV in which no British Team features...now, reading between the lines, why wouldn't they put it on before to bolster ratings? Apparently, fans will want to hear "Jose Mourinho's mind games" pre-match...or could it be they daren't risk splitting the audience in a head-to-head with DW? Either way...even BGT can't avoid scheduling problems!

Well I can get home at any time from 5 pm to 8 pm so I think that I should have a hot line installed so that when I get home I can pour myself a bear, sit in front of the TV, ring the BBC and say "You may commence broadcasting now."

Clearly the BBC is about to cancel EASTENDERS and is showing huge disrespect to such a flagship show by bumping it for something as trivial as a new Prime Minister

The programme is repeated at later times on Sunday and Friday.

Having said that, every other programme I watch regularly, I think "it's on at 7 or 9" or whatever.

It would be nice to have some consistency.

Every digital receiving TV has an onscreen programme guide - do you suggest that people are unable to read or just can't be bothered therefore need "consistency" ?

People do sometimes forget to check, actually. Or they are busy doing other things. Unforgivable, I know. Not me. Other people.

.....or not as the case actually was. It has the same overnights as Victory of the Daleks and just a few hundred thousand less than the last couple of weeks. And that really is a fact.

As a side note, I love the irony of your post here:

http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/s...5&postcount=19

apparently it's no big deal when an episode of one programme gets shifted to another night of the week entirely but is a matter of national importance when DW starts a few minutes earlier than usual according to you!

But if they're busy doing other things then they couldn't watch anyway so I don't see the problem - if a person wants to watch a programme it is THEIR responsibility to find out when it is being shown, not the Broadcasters responsibility to pander to their inadequacy - this is the same argument as the Daily Heil and "Who is too scary for kids" - if it's too scary for kids, grow some balls parents and say "No, you can't watch it" instead of fannying around moaning about the fact your "babysitter" isn't spewing out suitable content for the kids YOU can't be bothered to watch.

Really? Most of the parents I know have difficulty getting theirs to bed before 9:00pm (some 10:00pm at weekends). 7:30 seems to be bedtime for pre-schoolers these days.

Our OPG is frequently wrong and our V+sometimes missed the beginning or end of programmes because the time is incorrect.

Actually, that must have been annoying for quite a few people:OK, something more important came up so they had to drop East Enders and the show following it, but they could have simply announced they weren't going to be on instead of updating the schedules every half hour and then dropping them regardless. It must have been obvious from about 7.30 onward that the election story was going to run all evening, surely?
