Bad signal on orange...
Pingu
14-05-2004
Just recently over the past few days, I've noticed I get little or no signal in my house..
I looked into it, and instead of the normal cells I lock onto, 1355/**00, 01 and 02, I'm getting 642/***27 and 22. The signal on these are terrible, 1 or 2 bars at the most. If it's in my pocket, it completely loses it. Do cells change like this often? Am I likely to get the other ones back? If I tell Orange, are they likely to do anything about it?

Thanks

They're probably not going to to owt about it for you, but if you ask them they will tell you if there is a reason, say maintainance etc.

My Girlfriends sister lives in Reading & she recently phoned Orange & said her reception has been terrible & they told her if you look at your T&C's it doesn't guarantee reception.

They didn't even try & help or give an explanation. My signal has been a bit funny recently, I work in the centre of London & live in Southhhhhhhh London?

I find I have problems with a signal in Bangor, North Wales, its ok near the shopping centre (I think the Orange shop has somthing to do with that) but at the other end for those of you that know Bangor near Cob Records the Orange signal is quite poor.

I used to get that occassionally on Orange - every time i phoned up they had problems with 4 transmitters in my area - turned out the phone was faulty in 5/10 cases though.

Just tried my orange SIM in an o2 3330, and an o2 3650, which otherwise get full signal, and it's even worse... I'll have to ring orange later.

Hmm, just moving around it's changing onto loads of different and unrecognized cells (I've put in names for my usual ones), but the signal is always less than -101dBm.

I'm not too far from Orange's Bristol HQ and I have five Orange transmitters in and around the town. I'm only a few hundred yards from one yet I get an extremely poor signal in the immediate vicinity of my home. It's not the phone as I've put my SIM in about six or seven phones now and the result is always the same - low signal of very poor quality - all speech is muffled and distorted unless I can get in a particular spot when the signal meter of my 6310i displays all seven bars.

As I walk into the town centre the signal becomes better very quickly and the phone works perfectly. T-Mobile is better here but Vodafone and O2 are perfect.

Orange have been no help. One person told me that a known problem is being worked on which can't be true as it's been like this for three years now and another told me that I live too close to the transmitter.

I'm a Tooting man Dubster! To be fair my reception is normally very good. I'd give Orange 98% for signal quality.

Got home from work today, getting full signal on my usual transmitter. Must have been maintenance.

Bit of info for you, as quoted in Reuters:

LONDON, May 18 (Reuters) - Orange FTE.PA , the top mobile phone network operator in Britain, said on Tuesday that parts of its key London network had buckled between midnight and midday, but that engineers had rectified the problem.

Orange, which is controlled by France Telecom, confirmed that "a number of customers" in the London area had experienced intermittent difficulties in making or receiving calls following a software update on the network.

But the company added: "Normal service has now been restored."

Orange is not the only mobile phone operator in Europe to have to send in the engineers after network problems.

Last February, arch-rival Vodafone Group Plc's VOD.L Spanish network crashed during routine maintenance, leaving some of its subscribers without services for more than seven hours and triggering an investigation by Spanish authorities.

Anyone know what this software update was updating. I noticed the Sim Update but they never give you any information as to what they're updating. I assume its information that is on the handset regarding the network. I know it's slightly off topic but just something that interests me.

Does anyone have problems with phoning wap? I have got wap free for a month on that new "try" scheme, but the thing is I cant use it, so im wasting all this free time! It basically says no connection available. Should I try it in another area of the house or outside?

Have you got your phone settings on WAP set to orange? IE: the Number, Username and password along with the prefeix is all correct? This could be the problem, that when it says no connection, the wrong number is there!?

Also, have you goit the line setting set to ISDN?
