The emotion in his voice and face, I really thought he was going to cry - well I did, and do each time I hear him singing it. I love Michael Ball singing this and I compared the two, what Rhyd brings to it is a touch of anger at the wasted lives as well as his own grief, outstanding, world class etc etc, I am so privilaged to be there hearing him, and I will never forget that.”

I agree - it was a wonderful version of a song that of all the songs in Les Mis has tended to move me the least for some reason -until last Saturday that is

Just for the record It was not I who was grabbing gilly's knee

I also loved TID on Saturday especially Rhyd's defiant singing at the end of the song

Evening RATs
That was the first time I have ever heard TIHYS and Rhyd was sooo good, he deserves to play The Phantom, either the original or in LND.
The performance he gave of MOTN at Hyde Park was just superb
Imagine if Rhyd sang that on XF!

Many thanks rattie and all who took videos of the concert. They're brilliant and much appreciated. Don't know how you managed it rattie with your hands shaking.

I am very new to musical theatre. I've always really disliked it. Rhydian has certainly made me think again about that, especially with the song from Moulin Rouge and Stars from Les Mis - gosh that is a powerful song. Not to mention MOTN. It's really interesting to hear all your views on his performances. He does seem to bring another dimension to them - witness OGM's example about the anger in Empty Chairs, which was spot on.

I'd love to hear Rhyd sing the Moulin Rouge version of Your Song and Love Changes Everything.
I really love some MT songs

Interesting and pleasing fact - article not found by me but taken from another forum:

''....Eccentric classical singer, Rhydian Roberts, who is about to star in the War of the Worlds musical, came in third place with tickets to his last concert going for four times more than face value (£80).

At the other end of the scale, good album sales for former X Factor winners, ballad belting Leona Lewis and Alexandra Burke, has not translated into concert ticket demand. Tickets for both of their latest tours sold at less than face value........
Edward Parkinson, director of viagogo UK said; “Winners or runners up, tickets to see x-factor stars are some of the hottest in town”
.......For me it's interesting that Rhydian is the biggest concert attraction among the solo singers from XF group! Who would have thought that Leona is far behind him......''

Hi Grim, They are talking about and comparing the money paid for the tickets for the various tours and how much above face value they were sold for, i.e. how much in demand they were and how much people were prepared to pay above the normal price..

It's really nice to hear how his voice has developed since X-factor. It's quite evident from the latest videos. Diction is better, clearer, words end now better, transition is better. Dynamics are better, lower/upper register is more powerful. Also think his vibrato has smoothened. This from comparing his Imbossible Dream in X-factor and PORTHCAWL.

This is also quite funny, since he was so good already. God only knows what he can still achieve.

yes I saw that article too Liz. Tickets for Rhyd's first solo tour were certainly in demand - and even when he is just the celebrity guest he sells concerts out

Unfortunately tickets for WOTW cost a lot more than £20 grim

Interesting video found by RhydsFlower or maybe by someone else before her. It is from the ice skating show of the medal winners of the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver - the Chinese Silver medalist pair skated to Rhydian's 'The Impossible Dream':

Hi and welcome

That was our experience on tour. In the first few gigs we were blown away and amazed that he had improved so much, even though we didn't think that there was any room for improvement and then from about Glasgow on he seemed to even improve on that and we had already run out of superlatives!

Hello and welcome to the RAT

I'd agree with you there, his voice has changed, matured I suppose and I love his lower register now, it is so rich.

You'll have to stay around then to see what he can still achieve

I'm still swooning over this

Hey Mary,

Awesome most definitely, even the great videos can't compete with how it sounded live though, sadly. The sound system was barely coping with his voice!

Still, that's the beauty of some smaller venues I guess, his voice fills the place, in somewhere like the RAH you don't get the same effect, it's impossible.

Just for purposes of accuracy - the video I posted yesterday was not from the Winter Olympics in Vancover, but from another event. In fact there are two videos where Rhydian's version of TID is used for ice skating, one was filmed in China in September (Artistry on Ice) and the video I posted was from Medalist on Ice filmed in Korea. Little Baker kindly corrected the false information. Sorry about that!

I'm sure that he will do Jerusalem justice. Fingers crossed that he makes it onto the telly

The Super League Grand Final is a big event and it gives Rhyd the chance to tick off another iconic sporting venue (it's at Old Trafford)

I'm off to Wales (again) tomorrow to see Rhyd at Builth Wells and I am looking forward to meeting up with various RATs again

I will report back
