Can't remember where I read about Rhydian saying that he wanted to go down this route but Simon didn't seem keen.
I remember when his second album came out and many of us were sceptical about this being what he actually wanted to down the classical route and being lambasted (in other places) for not just swallowing the hype. You really have to take any quotes about direction etc when an album is released with a pinch of salt, particularly when Simon Cowel is part of the picture. The stuff about classical music being his true music home, just didn't fit with the observable evidence. What I am hearing about this album fits more with what I have observed.
I think though that it may take some time for Rhydian to be sure of where he wants to go. He seems to be driven to share his muse but I think that he has been so pushed about by his past record company (I don't think either of his past two albums were what he would have come up with if he had had a free hand), that it is likely that he would have lost a bit of confidence about what his true music niche is. Just speculation on my part
All in all I think that this album will bring us closer to where Rhydian really wants to go, and wanted to go but wasn't allowed. It is unlikely thought that it will be the end of the journey, which I find rather exciting
